    AC is making strange noises

When I turn my car on it makes this chain like noise but the second I turn the AC on it stops. I was thinking it was the clutch going bad. My mechanic said the same thing. Would it be that or the coil or something else? Any help would be great.

get some electrical contact cleaner and spray the clutch down to wash it out. There might be a good ammount of dust between the plates thats not letting them engage correctly.

The clutch itself is bad. Its not springing back far enough away from the pulley so its rattling a bit. The gap can be adjusted with special tools

If I were to adjust it how would I go about that?

In this picture from left to right is the compressor clutch, compressor pulley and the magnetic coil. You need to increase the gap between the clutch and pulley. There is a puller tool that is used to do this.
Might be easier to have a shop do it.

Thanks for the information I am probably just going to have a mechanic fix it.
