AC Delco Air Filter better fit

The Fram filter always gave a "loose" fit with my SLP Blackwing lid. After changing to an AC Delco filter the lid fits perfectly snug with the clamps closing tightly. The pictures shows why, looks like Fram is cutting corners on the rubber seal portion of their filter. The AC Delco is significantly thicker, I got the AC Delco through Rock Auto.

Good info, but couldn't you have gotten one locally & saved yourself the shipping charge?

I bought a filter for my Suburban at the same time, still saved money over the dealer price.

most, or all frams are made in china now. cut a wix or a good napa and a fram oil filter apart and you will never buy another fram. we found the air filter problem on police cars, they were being sucked down in the air box cuz they didnt fit right anymore.

I noticed the wire mess on the Fram air filter is a lot thinner as well causing it to be flimsy. This Fram was made in Canada (says on it ) and the AC Delco was made in Great Britain. You can see in the picture the AC Delco is rigid and the Fram is bending just sitting on the bench. I don't buy Fram oil filters either here is a great link showing the inside of all brands of oil filters.

I thought I would share my latest engineering experiment and this thread seems to be a great place for it. I often wondered about which air filter would be best to use. With all the claims of better performance and HP gains I thought I’d see what difference the air filter really makes. Last week at the track I ran 6 times down the track with my AC Delco filter and then removed it and ran another 6. I know there a lot of variables, but for the most part I’m very consistent with my driving. The results indicated a .135 decrease in time running without the filter. Based on picking up a solid tenth of a second I feel the AC Delco filter is just as good as the K&N. Although, I would need to try running with the K&N to quantify this.
