ABS light on
Anyone have any ideas why my abs light might just come on for no apparent reason? I only have 15k miles on a 01 ws6, can't figure it out.
thanks

possibly a wheel speed sensor? You would have to scan it for codes and take it from there

What kind of code reader? It's not going to be a "P" code.

Correction, looked it up in my helms. There are 2 possible "P" codes - most are "C" or "U" codes and need an EBCM scan tool.

you guys are right, I must have the wrong tool, no codes show on mine, Is there any other way to figure this out other than going out and buying a scan tool?

I'd do as suggested earlier and check the sensor connections first. Wouldn't buy another scan tool you'll probably only need once, I'd bring it in and have it read first - even if it meant going to the dealer.

figured it out, it was the foglamp wire in front of the radiator. There is a connection there that can get corroded. I just cut ot and used a wire connector and BAM no more lights.

This turned out to be the EBCM not the fog lamps, I was premature in my conclusion.I bought a used one on Ebay for 35.00 and no light since. I cleaned the engine bay a few days before so if you got it wet in there there is a SLIGHT chance water seeped through the silicone gasket. I had codes read though and were communication, ecu malfunction, and device voltage range/performance.

On a 3 channel car there are sensors at the front wheels, one in the middle of the differential. On a 4 channel car there are sensors at all four wheels.
You really need to get the code pulled. I know you would like to spend money at a dealership like you would like a hole in the head, but honestly without a code you are just wandering aimlessly in the dark. I believe there are 50 or so codes for the ABS system, so we have to narrow it down.
After you have a code, you can print out the troubleshooting tree (i.e. from AllData) and it will tell you EXACTLY what to check, how much voltage/resistance should be where, etc. It could be anything from a bad sensor, broken wire, damaged reluctor wheel, ABS module, the list goes on.
