About to do LS1 to LS6 PCV Conversion (Help)

    Howdy folks,
I am using LS1Howto web site for doing this conversion. But since I am a little confused let me ask this.

    I have a stock 2000 Z-28, Stock LS1 Motor.

If I am keeping my stock intake manifold and doing this LS1 to LS6 PCV Conversion, Do I need to change my Stock Coolant Vent Tube to a different style? IF I am understanding things correctly, this vent tube only needs to be changed to a different style if a different intake manifold is correct.

I am having to install new knock sensors and harness for a code I have and also am installing new heater core hose kit so I figured since I am going to be into my motor this far why not do the PCV conversion as well.

I was just a little confused over if i need to change the style of coolant vent tube or not.

I am keeping my stock manifold and believe that I also keep the stock coolant vent tube as well when doing this conversion. Please give me feed back on this if I am wrong.

    Thanks...

    Ted

You need the LS6 or also I believe LS3 style coolant tube/block offs as the LS6 valley cover had little nubs on the top that the LS1 coolant tube will not clearance when putting the intake back on.

Sorry for posting this a little late, I'm sick and just saw this. Hope you get it in time.

If your keeping the LS1 intake there is no need to swap over to the LS6/3 Coolant tube. The LS6/3 Coolant tubes are for deeper intakes like the LS6/FAST intakes that sit deeper in the valley. It won't harm you to swap over now or later if you decided to upgrade to a LS6 or FAST Intake.

The help thread reference the LS6/3 coolant tubes because they used some of the material for a stock intake swap to LS6 Intake.

I as well as Jay and quite a few others have done this mod. I've got a few threads on it. So if you have any questions just ask. This mod works real great with a catch can in addition. It's not needed but just works better.

FYI, Take your time when cutting the notch. I had a buddy hold a shop vac as I was cutting to help pick up the debris so that I wouldn't have any shavings go into the block. I used rags and plastic sheeting to block off the area as much as I could. It look like a surgery procedure. I also did an oil change the next day just to make sure and plus it was due anyways.

Now for future reference. Some ppl still use the LS1 coolant tube with their LS6 intake. They knock off the fins on the bottom of the intake to make room for the tube. As long as you don't penetrate the intake itself your fine. Not sure if able with FAST intakes. Another option is they cut the center tube out and weld a plug to cap off the center tube. This method still allows the coolant to transfer in the rear of the cylinder heads. For myself I used the LS6 coolant kit when I did mine. They have stop making this kit and are now calling it the LS3 coolant kit. Funny looks a lot like the previous one. Might be just marketing.

Guess I was mistaken. I could have swore the nubs on top of the valley would hit.

Hello all once again, I need to ask something about LS6 Valley Covers and there associated PN's.

I ordered in the LS6 Valley cover using the PN that is listed on LS1HowTo.com PN 12568002 (BUT) I see what looks like a different PN on others postings of there LS6 Valley cover. In this case I seen PN 12577927.

    1. Is there 2 versions of the LS6 Valley Cover, hence the reason why 2 different PN's and if this be the case WHICH PN is the better one to use on my 2000 LS1 (which will be keeping the stock intake manifold).

One style does not require the use of an externally mounted pcv valve, one does. I believe the one ending in 927 is the one you want, looks cleaner and no need to fuss with the pcv valve. If you aren't installing a catch can they also sell a small pre bent hose to tie it in to the intake for like $5
