    99 firebird steering wheel movement

Hello everyone, there is this odd looseness on my steering wheel. Unsure as to what it might be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here's a short video:

I had the same problem with mine. There are dowels that the whole thing pivots on. If you remove your trim around the column, you may find a small round steel dowel has fallen out. I had to pull down on the steering wheel to start and turn off the car. It got so bad that the car would die going aorund corners. The only thing that fixed it was a new column. I got mine off ebay. Cleveland pick a part I believe. Those guys know what they are doing. YOu need the column, the key, the ignition cylinder, and the BCM to change it all out. The BCM sits under the glove box. It is not fun to remove. The column was a piece of cake to remove and reinstall. Took me maybe an hour.

You will have to do some disassembling to see what the issue is, but the pins make sense. On older GM columns there are 4 torx screws about halfway down that loosen up on occasion and that will cause the column to move around. I dealt with that fun on our Turbo Regal a year or so ago. Whatever you do, make sure you disconnect your battery and let the car sit for 20-30 minutes or so before you play with it. Having the air bag go off in your face might make for a bad day.

I've yet to own an Fbody that didnt not have this issue. Steering wheel will shift down and to the left if you pull on it in every one I've ever owned.
