Piston slap is my first guess and second guess would be valve train. Yes ls1's are commonly loud motors when it comes to making noise.

No im not saying you need pistons. Almost every ls motor that comes in my shop and i have delt with has piston slap. But as motor gets hot they expand and it quits making the noise. And i am not understanding spray it with piston slap?

My guess is he asked if it would be ok to add a nitrous system to it.

OP: As stated, our engines are notorious for being noisy when cold. The combination of a short skirt piston and different material expansion rates results in "piston slap". This noise generally goes away as the engine warms up and should be non-existent when hot. The valve train is also known for a "sewing machine" type noise. Our car has both and it's just a fact of life with an LS1. Just be sure to warm the engine up before playing with the loud pedal and you'll be fine.

You you search there are plenty of opinions on oil threads here. I use mobil1 5w/30 and mobil1 filter. Not big on the use of stabilizers.

all the ls motors in my shop have the piston slap and Zinger sewing machine valvetrain sound going on. Only way to not hear it best i can tell you is to get some loud exhaust. Like the others said before once it heats up your fine.

We have a couple of good threads on oil and filters. I think the top rated filter right now is the Fram Xtended Guard (believe it or not), with Amsoil, Wix (same as Napa Gold), Mobil1 and others also being preferred. Good oils include Amsoil, Mobil1, and Penzoil Platinum. Opinions vary quite a bit on this topic.
