98 Z28 question
I have two questions first one is I am thinking about buying another sports car I already have a 2002 black WS6 A4 and I was looking at either a 1998 white Z28 A4 or a 1999 red mustang saleen, they both have about 70k miles but different in price any thoughts or suggestion would be helpful.
My second questions might be a stupid question but I don't know so I will ask, the question is other than the hood and wing on the back is their any difference from a Z28 and a SS if so what are they thanks for the help.

Thats not a stupid question.
Here is a quick rundown, besides the hood and spoiler.
Slight horsepower increase.
larger wheels (17 SS, 16 Z28)
Higher axle ratio standard on SS optional on Z28.
Different shocks and springs.
Less restrictive catback.
I'm sure there is something else. Help the OP out with anything I missed everyone.

Thanks for the reply, what kind of horsepower increase we talking about 5-10 or more and also is it due to the ram air hood? I am not worried about the cutback I will change the whole exhaust system including headers and I changed my mind about the mustang he wants $14,500 and I won't pay that much for a 1999 ford if you know what I mean even if it has a supercharger.

In 2002 gm listed the horsepower difference at 15. 98 should be in that area.
And keep in mind that this is what gm claimed. Some Z28s have more power stock than some SS models. It depends on the build quality of that particular car more than the model designation.
The difference is mostly due to the exhaust being less restrictive.
As you plan on modding the car, the power difference shouldn't be of much consideration. The headers and exhaust will make up for any minor difference.
It really comes down to looks. What do you like better?

There is little to no difference wise from the z28 to the SS, it's whats outside the motor that changed. The hood, spoiler, exhaust, SLP packages and such.
Just go with whichever one you think looks better, cuz that's all that will matter after you start modding it, TRUST ME.
Which year and model of Saleen you looking at, pretty sure some came N/A if I'm not mistaken and others had different power packages...

IMO, the LT-1 was a strong motor. Only issue I know of is the Opti-Spark going bad from water pump failures or condensation accumulating in the assembly. There are LS-1-style coil conversions available to do away with the Opti. The LT-1 was rated at 275 SAE-NET horespower for the standard LT-1 but I cannot recall the horsepower ratings for the SS/WS6. You could get the LT-4 upper/lower intake and a larger throttlebody assembly for more power. The LT-4 was rated at 330 hp and was available in the C4 Corvette GS and 30th Anniversary Camaro SS.

So basically what you are saying is that it has much less hp than a LS1, and ya when I do buy it I will do some upgrades to make it better just wanted to know a lil more about the LT1's compared to the LS1's thanks for the info

They are down quite a bit on power, but they aren't exactly slouches either. You can do a lot of the same mods on and LT1 as an LS1 and gain a lot of power.

I remember when I was working at a GoodYear shop back in 96. A black on black 96 Camaro SS came in for a tire. Salesperson tagged a curb and tore up the right rear tire. I saw it in the lot and I drooled. When my manager gave me the keys, I was happier than a pig in shit. I fired that bitch up and I sat in the car for 2 minutes before I brought it into my bay to install the tire.

Ok this might be a stupid question I don't know but I know for the firebird family they make a formula then a WS6 and they also have black birds and so on, but my question is for camaro's do they make or did they make I-Roc or Z-Roc in the 1996 year, I ask because all the z-28 camaro's I see don't have the same rims and ground affects as the one I am looking to buy, any thoughts would be helpful, thanks
