98 LS1 cooling fans?
Have a friend who has a 98 LS1 and states it never went over 180 (1/4 on the temp gage), now it gets over 210 and the fans don't seem to come on, unless the A/C is turned on. Swapped the Fan1 & 2 relays, and the fans came on once, but when we tried again, didn't come on. It looks like there's a sensor on the passenger side of the radiator, is that for the fan control? My thinking is that it might be bad/flakey. Any help would be appreciated.
TIA

The sensor on the passenger side of the radiator is just the low coolant level sensor - ECT sensor is on the drivers side head near the #1 plug. Fans are controlled by the PCM - throwing any codes?

I know my car runs at and over 210 on a regular basis (OBDII readout temp, the gauge is a little inaccurate). Never paid any attention to when the fan comes on though.

stock fan settings are 1st stage on at 229 off at 222 2nd stage on at 237 off at 230. So the fans won't come on until those temps are reached.

My stock 2000 SS runs about at about 200/210 down here in the Texas heat. It's my weakass alternator that I have to keep an eye on.

My 98 with a 160 thromostat never breaks 180 unless i'm sitting still for quite a while. I've had my car since 01 and the stage 1 fan has NEVER come on except once earlier this year when my thromostat closed and I replaced it. Only time a fan goes on is when the A/C is on.

Thanx, everyone. I'm going to consider this a non-problem. Doesn't seem to overheat, once it gets up a little above 210 on the gauge it starts cooling off (fans must be coming on then) and it cools down to about 180-190 when it gets rolling again.
