98 camaro build up
hey all,
im building up my first ls1. and i have no idea on what to get with the cam im wanting to run. the cam i want to run is the T-Rex cam from thunder racing these are the specs 242/248 - .608/.612 - 110 lsa. now i kno i need to get valve springs. im gonna go with comp cams with them with 650 max lift. long tube headers. now what im asking you all about is, what else do i need to get for this build up. would i need to get the following: oil pump. timing chain. push rods. intake. throttle body. lifters. stuff like that??? or is there a more radical cam for a stock ls1? i just wanna shove the biggest cam possible in this camaro. with out gettin in to the core.
thanks

Phantom Black Metallic- 2004 GTO M6
Some will suggest a stronger rearend if you haven't made the upgrade already. All those engine mods mean nothing if the rear grenades.

street car? what trans? M6 or A4
that alot of cam thats why i ask...yes you will need what you stated BUT the lifters should be fine unless you want to replace them
you also need a full exhaust setup and a good set of heads to make all these things
worth a dam and a stall if you have a A4...dont forget a tune when all said and done
and a rearend if your M6....with A4 it will hold until it breaks

Patriot "gold" double springs are what i use and have used in alot of builds,, definitely gonna need some good pushrods ,maybe some ls2 lifter trays.. double roller timing chain (not a big fan of single roller with big cams) but people use ls2. rocker trunions upgrade a must... Sounds like a fun build !

^^^^ What they all said in regards to parts.
But have you driven a car with a cam that big in a LS1? Thats not really a street friendly cam. You will def need gears other wise its going to feel like a dog down low. That cam really doesnt come alive until the higher RPMs.
I guess the question is, is this car going to be a track car or street car?1967 Camaro - LS1 T56 project

and to your question its mostly gonna be a track car.

I have a buddy with that cam and ran 11.5 @ 125 cam only (Obviosly bolt ons too)
But he runs it with 4.56 gears on a 28in tall tire. Its a good cam for the track but not that good for the street!

yea with a cam like that you want a high gear and it being a track car is doesnt really matter about how drive-able it is...you also want a 9in rearend, dont waste your money on a 12bolt
you also are going to want forged internals for your engine if you want a "track car"
