97 Trans Am Shutting Down

I Have a 97 Trans Am with the LT1 350 in it and it shuts down on me just driving down the road and will not restart right away I have to leave it sit.... It acts like the anti theft has kicked in it will just sit there and crank over I have all lights and power to everything except the tach does not move at all when turning it over if anyone has any ideas please let me know

The tach gets its signal from the opti spark.

You either have a bad opti spark, opti harness or Ignition module. Unfortunetly diagnosing these things seems to be a mysterious art. I've yet to find a clear step 1,2,3 this is how you determine what is bad.

I've had TONS of problems with my opti on the 96 and just recently went with an Accel Brand opti and rotor, hopfully I'll get a couple years out of it.

From what I've seen with the ignition module is it will cause intermitent stuff or not work at all. I'm pretty sure if your tach is not working it is the opti or the harness.

Do a google for opti harness and you should be able to find some pictures of it. It plugs in behind the water pump on the passenger side then routes up to another plug about mid motor on the same side.

Lots of people have just replaced the harness and fixed all their problems.
