    6.0 swap

I cant seem to line the pins from my block to my trans. I bought a 80,000 mile 6.0 to put in my 2000 trans am. I learned the hard way that a 6.0 wont go in a f-body that easy. Oil pan, oil pickup and windage tray are all specific. I took the 5.7 out of the top threw the hood. I dont have an engine stand so imagine doing this all on a cheerypick. Im broke like most people now days so my 6.0 is in my ta with no re-build. But nI cant seem to line the damn pins! The car went 12.8? with 5.7 and all kinds of boltons. Like:long header, mass air, poorted throttle body, 02 sims; and some kind of tuner. Im no mechanic. I did this with a 75.00 Autozone socket set with 2 and 6 inch ext. 1 set jack stands, 1 barowed jack, and 1 barowerd cheerypicer. And 1 ratchet wrench for driverside bellhousing bolt on top. Im a plumber not a mechanic. Any helpfull hints, tips or hell any comments appreciated

the 5.7 was 24x at the reluctor wheel on the crank.the 6.0 is 58 on the reluctor wheel.need the ECM from the 6.0 donor vech. for the proper ECM tune.are the align pins on the 6.0 bigger than the other engine?swap the oil pan and pick-up tube from the 5.7 to the 6.0,use a new O-ring and lube it!

I believe all ls motors up till 05 came with a 24x reluctor if the motors an 05-down u should be good 06-up you need th converter box.

reluctor wheels are the same I found out today. SDPC. They say the block are exactly the same, only one iron 4.00 bore the other is 3.98 I think. I changed the motor mounts, oil pan, windage tray, and pick up. Im going to try and pull it togather with the bolts. I heard that might be what I have to do, but DAMN that sounds risky on an aluminum bellhousing.

Be Very careful. People break stuff all the time doing that. Maybe your torque converter isn't all the way in the transmission

the trick with the bolts worked! I got one side [driver] lined up, put the 2 side bolts in a little over have way and wiggled the engine and trans from under the car. I kept letting down little at a time and sure enough the 2 bolts holp line the other side and pull the engine into place slowly.

    Thumbs up

Good good. You did the nice and easy way instead of trying to just slam it home with the bolts.

used the bolts to keep every thing aligned while the engine was still hanging and the transmission still had a jack under it. Next few days I should have most of under the car done. Shure hope the header goes back in easy. Pace setter slip collecter

What size injectors do you have? Bigger cubes will need more fuel, and the new injectors will need tuned.

I'm getting everything ready o drop a 404 stroker in my GTO (same 6.0 block)

Good luck getting it all back together, and don't be afraid to ask if you need anything!

still have intake manifold, fuel rails, injectors, and hell even got a 2003 Denalli engine wire harness. I havent checked yet but mabey the injectors are the same length. Only 2 styles ls1/6. And the Ls2. I think.
