    A built T-56 can handle a lot of abuse. And Vertiviper, go n/a all the way. Use quality, solid internals (stroked would be best), good set of heads (up your compression a bit), good intake, and a hella cam with your basic bolt ons and you will have a power monster that will last you a long time.

    Not really...

    I don't know why everyones always ragging on the T56, overall its one of the best transmission designs on the market. Its only been recently surpassed by the new Tremec TR6060, which is a derivative of the T56, used in the GT500 and Pontiac G8 GT.

    The T56 in Mustang Cobras seems to have no problem handling everything from stock or highly modified engines, its all in the internals. Seems that the F-bod T56 is definitely an internally inferior unit compared to the Mustang Cobra T56.

    the 2006 jan issue of hot rod mag put together a 525hp ls1 out of a 99 trans am but your looking to spend about 8 grand but they have turn key ls1 crate motors that are 500 hp but there 12 grand so its all in what you want to spend

    With 8 grand you could put a 600hp 403 or 408.
