Yellow- 2002 Pontiac Trans Am CE
I have a 2002 Trans Am CE and I am getting a lot of whining noise in my car. It is the most noticeable in lower gears but gets really loud when taking turns. Everything is fine up until I've driven the car for about 10-15 minutes and then it starts in.
The dealer tech tried to tell me it was an air pump but I suspect that it is the power steering pump.
Is your whining noise strictly when taking turns or is it all the time? How much does a power steering pump replace cost?

my whine is when you turn the wheels and it increases as the rpms increase.

rehashing this, i think my air pump is whinning, i dont think its coming from the ps, it sounds like its coming from the front of the intake manifold where the EGR goes in....
any one have any ideas?

are you getting any codes for lean P0174 or P0175? pull the EGR tube out of the intake and see if the rubber o-ring slipped.

no codes yet, it just started this weekend. you think it could be the belt tensioner or a bad belt or something? its definatly in the engine, and definatly related to accesory speed.

check that and the short rubber line that goes from the PCV valve to the intake. it likes to rot from the bottom and you get a vacuum leak.
Cold Air Intake, Muffler Delete, Vinci High Performance Dual Valve Springs, Hardened Pushrods, Yella Terra 1.85 Rockers, Some Hydropdipped Stuff, Strut Tower Brace, Some SS Badges, boost/vacuum gauge, fuel pressure gauge, some checkered stripes, drilled/slotted rotors, ZL1addons Stealth wickerbill, Ruxifey LED side markers

Just a sugestion to ya Sspeed. I'm am not saying (you) do this, but one common mistake made is turning the wheel lock to lock. This is very hard on the pump and after time it will beat it up. Don't completely turn the wheel.
