    408 stroker build

my buddy is doing a 408 stroker build here soon. he wants N/A engine car to put down about 550 rwhp. has anybody did a 408 stroker N/A and whats the max amount of horsepower anybody has got within a reasonable car. right now he is looking at a vengeance racing ls2 408 stroker and trying to get as close to one of their builds as he can, his own way. he is looking at the TSP cam and some trick flow 215cc heads and the lsxr 102 intake manifold. i think the heads are gonna be too small for what he wants. he wants to run pacesetter LT's, and tsp x-pipe and random tech mufflers also. anybody have anything to add or tell him something different to do to get his goal. he wants to drive this car a couple times a week and stay on pump gas also

You want big numbers you need big heads. L92's with a little work should get you there. Is car M6 or A4. Its hard to put down big numbers in an auto.

    LS2 408??
Time for a little more research.

Average 402/408 makes 475-520RWHP. Killer powerband though.

Heads are gonna choke it up a bit....if he's dumping $$ on a FAST 102 why not have Tony Mamo hog out a big set of AFRs.

500 to the rear wheel would suit me just fine. Been looking for an LQ9 block... It's gonna be my winter project.

    welcome to ls1.com

my buddy did an LQ9 build last winter and is putting 490 to the ground with the LS6 intake. don't know the specs of the cam or heads. i just know they are trick flow heads. kooks 1-7/8 long tubes and cat-less Y with Corsa exhaust. Stage 2 internals for his M6 tranny with a strange 60 rear end. all new suspension. Had the engine built by AES out of Chicago and this was not a cheap build what so ever. car preforms like a beast.

What cam are you looking at for you 408?

I just started assembling the rotating assembly on a LQ9 block 418 and still have not decided on a cam. I am shooting for 550ish rwhp also.

its a m6. he doesnt know what cam either.. he just knows where he wants to get and has the money to do it. thanks for all the tips. so youre saying he definately needs good heads like the AFR 225's? and on the 402/408 thing, some on youtube say 408 some say 402... i dont really care what it is. i just know he wants to be above 500 rwhp and over 400 cubes. i just need more info on what yall are making. good info so far though. keep it going. we are both in iraq and are both building killer ls's when we get back.

and as far as the ls2 408... i have watched plenty of videos on youtube that say ls2 408... if the engine isnt a 408, its pretty close to one for everyone to call it a 408

Should not bore the LS2 over 0.030" without resleeve.
Stroking the LS2 to 4" stroke gives you a 402.

Normally the 408 is an LQ9 block.
    Just saying.

I would def go with a lq9 block if I was him imo, cause if he ever decides to boost it will be more reliable since it is a cast iron, instead of a sleeved aluminum block.

The aluminum blocks handle plenty of power.
    800-900 without issue.

I'm not 100% sure but I wanna say 62cc chambers? Mine are for a low compression build cuz I'm running them on a boosted setup.

if its for low compression you might have the 72ccs the higher the number the less compression....those are the ones i have b/c i was going to run boost to BUT i going to run nitrous now and raise my compression and swap my cam out
