400 hp setup?
Hey all, I wanted to see what you guys think of this setup. I'm somewhat looking to turn my engine into an 01 z06 motor, or similar. I was thinkin about this setup, what do you think? what would I need in addition.- 01 ws6
1.85 ratio rocker arms
ls6 heads (ported?)
01 z06 stock cam
new valve springs?
I'm looking to get around 400hp, im not looking to get a big cam or anything crazy, just something of a big brother (z06) upgrade

you can do that quite easy with or with out the zo6 heads there are so many heads to choose from ( CHECK OUR SPONSORS AND YOU WILL SEE) if u want a stock heads like a stock eliminiator class you could go with ls6 heads / 243 casting heads / the ws6 already have the identical cam as the zo6 to that will bump you up to your 400 hp at the crankshaft horsepower 365-+ or minus 15 hp depends on the dyno and you are at your 400 hp crankshaft goal
Happy Thanksgiving

Pewter metallic- 2000 Camaro SS
I am not 100% sure on this, but I believe the '02 LS6 cam was a bit bigger than the '01 version. IIRC, they rated them at 385 in '01 and then bumped them up to 405 in '02.

well internals is new to me. I don tknow much about rockers other than what I read in the catalogues. It seems as if , if you get certain rocker arms, that you dont need a cam. I could be wrong. What will rockers do? And with a sstock z06 cam i wouldnt need too much of a tune right?

rockers are a waste unless you have done every little thing. A tune is going to cost the same whether it is just bolt-ons or a cam.

243 (LS6 heads with gasket match port and polished and mill the heads to 62CC) Then get a 04 Z06 camshaft, LTs, pretty much full bolt on and you should be around 400 rwhp. Depends if you want flywheel or rwhp power

I guess just flywheel. I know anything after that requires heavier modification. I've got lt's on there and all the basic air and exhaust mods. I'm almost afraid to ask, but how much do u guys think an install like that would run? I'd try it myself but i dont trust myself to do somethin like that.

I'd be swaping basically the ls1 heads/cam for an 04 z06 cam, and a set of 243 head which i'd have port n polished. Would I need new springs as well?

I wouldn't waste my time installing a Z06 cam when there are better choices out there. Thunder Racing has a line of Cheater cams that work well with stock exaust and cats and they don't require tuning unless you have an A4 transmission. Cam,springs and pushrods for less than $600.

Yea, like i said i've got all the basic bolt ons. And after reading into what it all takes for the install of a cam and heads, first , i wouldnt want to do it myself, second, it's uber expensive, and third, paying someone else to do it would cost a ton, not to mention having to get the car tuned after.

You need springs with an LS6 cam so that change is flatout not worth it IMO even though the springs are cheap.....A 224 cam is the minimun I would run.. I have a 230/234 I could DD if I needed to....

yes it costs at least a grand to get springs and a cam installed so why don't you call up comp cams and tell them you have a daily driver and you want a camshaft that will pass smog in every state and that you don't want to change your valve springs every 20 thousand miles with having a custom cam made for you its only $125 more and then you can have a cam made for your daily driving habits

I thought they would do a custom grind for the same $$$ as off the shelf... Mine is a custom XFI/X-ER lobed cam and I paid $389????
