305 or 307!?!?!
I currently have a 69 camaro with the original 307 in it. The 307 puts out 200HP and 300TQ and was rebuilt 15k miles ago and has a 3 speed auto with it. The car does 0-60 in about 8 seconds, i want faster. I found a guy selling an 85 camaro IROC with a 305 and a 5 spd manual. The 305 puts out 190HP and 240TQ, is it worth it to swap the 307 for the 305 or not, im mostly in this for the speed increase, so let me know if it is a wise choice, or even if it will make any difference at all, thanks

In my personal opinion there's not much point in trying to gain any significant performance with the 305 or the 307. Unless you want to stay original then I would go with the 307. However if you want to gain some performance it's time to up the displacement. I.E. 350cid. I've owned a 305 TPI IROC and it had a nice amount of torque down low, but other than that it wasn't much of a performance motor. Over the years of owning the car I watched countless debates on several forums over the 305 vs 307 and 305 vs 350. Dollar for dollar, pound for pound the larger motor will be more cost effective to build and make more power.

Keep the original motor. And BTW, you're the luckiest kid around with that '69.
Besides, isn't 190/240 less than 200/300? Why would you want to put in a motor with LESS power?

i agree with demon speeding. whenever swapping an engine go bigger. your spending the money and doing all the work to install the motor. all that work to swap a 305 and you wont be happy. unless you could ever get yourself a 302 from a 69 camaro thats the exception. the 302 is smaller in displacement the the 305 and 307 but puts out a ton more power. the reason being it has a 4 inch bore and good heads. the 305 and 307 are oxy-morons when it comes to performance they are hindered by the shitty bore size and lack of parts. go with the cubes.

haha, thanks for the offer, but its not gonna be sold. I saved my money for a year and a half to get this car and spent 6 months finding it. cost me 10,500.00 plus the new rear end ive dropped in, a complete new front, and a completely reupholstered interior... i could sell the thing for 16 - 17K easy. But im keeping this badboy till the day i die, but thanks for the offer
