2000 T/A ws6 belt squeal

Belt squeals on start up, I replaced all pulleys, water pump and tried 3 different belts to no avail. After driving for 10 minutes the squealing stops. While leaning over the engine trying to determine what was squealing I accidentally spilled water on the belt and it instantly stopped the squeal until it dried up. So since I had 3 belts and I know I shouldn't I decided for the heck of it to spray some lubricant on it but that did nothing so back to the water and it stops. The tensioner it self seems to be fine so I haven't replaced it, it's pretty tight and not easy to move but I tried prying it back a little to put more tension on the belt to see if that would stop the squealing but still did nothing. I pulled the A/C belt off so I know it is in the main belt somewhere.. This is something that just started within the last few months and its driving me crazy anyone have any ideas?

Have you checked the alternator?

changed it about 2 months ago and it was doing this before I replaced it as well

It may be an alignment issue. After running the belt for awhile do you have any uneven wear on the belt ?

No unusual wear on the belt and belt seems to be running smoothly, no noticable wobbles or anything either. I would think if it were an alignment problem it would continue to squeal but it stops after about 10 minutes of driving

Some brands of belts just tend to run noisy -- I have had issues with Kelly and Duralast belts on some of our vehicles. Absent a pulley, tensioner or alignment issue, throw a Goodyear Gatorback belt on it.

Same as pajeff02 said. There are a lot of cheap belts out there. Get a goodyear gatorback belt and see what happens.

Running gatorbacks on mine. No issues. The Daycos that the previous owner installed squealed when cold or on humid days. Annoyed the hell out of me.

there is a technical service bulletin for the idler pulley on 98 -00 t/a with the vincode "G"...

Did you try the noise test by spinning each pulley with the belts removed to see which one is making the noise and has the least amount of tension? Just a thought....

I think that Chrysler had copyrighted the name alternator around '59-'60. This could be the reason GM still uses the generator term.

Last thing I worked on with a generator was a '49 Ford F-1.

Replaced all the new pulleys and I'll never buy duralast pulleys again. I bought new pulleys from GM and the squeals gone
