1998Trans Am tranny problems?

a buddy of mine just bought this car and i think there is something wrong with the tranny. Driving around slow it seems to shift fine, maybe just a bit slow but nothing too bad but when it's a WOT it will just stay at redline and won't shift. Sometimes it will shift but will shift very hard. Other times it will act like it wants to shift like it will go between gears and then finally go a head and shift. Anybody know if there is a shift sensor or is the tranny toast?

I am going to guess....
But I have a feeling the tranny is crapping itself.

Other things that might be wrong...
Sensors inside the tranny. Ones that determine line pressure.
