???1998 Gas Cap???
I'm in need of a gas cap for my 98 Z28 but I can't find one. Advance Auto said they couldn't even get one, and Auto Zone said they had one but turns out it's not the right one neither. I mean was the 98 gas cap just completely different for some reason? Is there any where I can get one for it?

That makes no sense. My cap on my 98 is just a regular cap, pretty sure the cap on our 96 is identical also.
Did you have to tell them what a camaro was? That may be the problem

I don't know what it is, but I even took the gas cap off my buddies 99 TA and it was different. And the guy at advance told me that the 97 was a screw on type with treads, and mines not.

Mine are both screw on. Sounds like somone changed your tank or something. Very strange. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

I just went through that and ya gotta go to the dealer and pony up like 25? dollars. I went to Checker and Auto Zone and they kept giving me one that wouldn't work. I failed smog because of that thing!

So that means GM just slapped in a different tank/cap style at will. Strange. Must be the same dimension as some other car or something.

You know guys sometimes I ahve found the dealer to be a great place to get parts, especially for ood ball ones that are pretty specific. $25 buck for cap big deal, thats what it costs in gass running back and forth to the parts store and lost time. Stop being so cheap and just get the damn thing and get on with your life.
If you are really that concerned about it I think the last generation of Jimmies had that push and click cap.

The reason is because the 98 is the only LS1 Camaro with a steel gas tank instead of the plastic tank on the 99-02 cars.

I had the same problem when I went to buy one for my 98. In 98 they changed the gas cap where the tabs are in the hole. Only a 1998 gas cap will work. OR-you can get a 99 cap and file down the tabs on the gas cap til it works. I wanted a locking gas cap for my car 98 z28 and they dont even make one for it. I bought the 99 locking cap and filed it. Worked perfecto.

You can buy the gasket for the 98. Mine failed the pressure test had the same issue.
Bought the gasket and fixed the problem.
If you lost the cap see above post on grinding down the tabs.

maybe its just as well. i bought a replacement cap from advance auto and i failed emissions check because my new cap was bad. i then bought one from the dealer and everything has been fine since. so my $28 gas cap was an extra $15 more because of the awful original replacement.
