Help: 1998 Camaro Z28
I am looking at buying the following:
1998 Camaro Z28 5.7L V8
B4C package
3.73 gears (4 speed automatic)
New oil, water, and fuel pumps
167,000 miles
The problem that I am having is that I know this use to be a police cruiser and it has 167,000 miles on it. I want to know if you think this LS1 has much more life in it. Please help me out, I want this car bad but I feel it's going to be a risk and I will have to drop a new Crate LS1 into it soon after purchase.Last edited by Z28wannabeZ06; 03-07-2008 at 12:48 AM.

If the vehicle has been maintained then it may be a steal. How much are they asking for it? Depending on the price, just make sure you give it a good look over or take it to a local mechanic that you trust and see whats up. I allways bring a scan tool and compression tester and a cooling system pressure checker with me when checking out a vehicle.

Silver- 02 Camaro Z28
Ran into a B4C package about 2 years ago at a gas station. Had an automatic in it. Officer says to me, "yeah, she's got extra HP and can catch one of those Z28's (pointing at my M6 333 RWHP Z28) without a problem." <laughing histerically to myself> OH! So, the officer tells me the oil is changed every 3k miles and the maintenance is kept up with and he couldn't wait till it hit 100k miles and was removed from service so he could buy it.

Firstly, you never answered SUNSETORANGESS who asked you how much they were asking for the car? This is an important starting point. He also gave some good suggestions. If they are asking 2,000 for the car, it might be worth it if you had to replace some ship.
According to VETTEEMT "1998 production numbers from GM: there were no B4C Camaros made for the 98 model year." This would raise my eyebrows. Do some more research on the car. Something seems fishy here!!!
My first NEW car was a 1998 Z-28, and it was very difficult to find because GM was on strike half of that year, made many less Z-28's because of it, AND it was the first year for the LS1 engine. (just some possibly useful tidbits).
Like SUNSETORANGESS asked, the PRICE is ESSENTIAL before people can give you some educated responses! Good Luck.

The asking price is $5500 atm but I am going to see if he will drop down to $4500.
And for the fact of there not being any B4C packages in 1998 that is wrong because the sticker clearly says B4C package on it and you can see where they have reenforced all the parts that they reenforced for the B4C package.

I'd pay about $1,000 for it. Nothing more. All it's good for is probably the shell; I can't imagine the engine being able to go too much longer.

Well, I guess it depends on the condition of everything else.
When were the shocks, struts, springs changed?
Brakes (pads, rotors)?
Fluids?

Red- 1998 Camaro SS

Here is the link to the list of 98 production numbers. If you are 100% sure you have a 98 B4C camaro then it might be a rare car or its not a 98 according to this data.

It seems that the B4C did not come out of the factory with the 1998 model stock and it looks like this police department had it custom ordered to put into the vehicle.
