i thought it was. I'm basically stock like you but you can see it on the temp gauge. You can't feel a difference but you know the cooler it is the more power your making. It's a good mod, just pick one up from the local auto parts store, takes like 5 1/2 minutes

I don't think it's worth it if your not running hotter than normal with mods. I have a full exhaust, tranny tune and engine tune and my thermostats still stock.

I've heard they dont actually work unless you've had your computer reprogrammed for it.

I am not sure if that is totally true? Yet, when I installed mine and told my
tuner he said when he tuned it he would adjust my fan kick on points also!

I know there cheap, so they have to be worth it.

You need to alter your Fan On/Off Temps in the PCM to make it effective.
Or you can install a Manual Fan Switch.

I have a hypertech 160 and had the fan settings changed when it was installed and it's great. My car runs soo much cooler, especially when your in traffic on a 95 plus day in TX. Not sure about how much power it actually gives you. Great mod for the few bucks it costs.

I think the oil needs to get hot enough to get rid of condensation, which causes sludge.

Mine was running a little over 215 and the fan was always on when i shut the car down. Now with the 160 the car never hits 210 and i never hear the fan, even without the tune

Gm has it higher to burn off hydrocarbons to clean up the emissions.

It simply isn't worth doing the cooler thermostat unless you also program the fans to kick on earlier.

Keep in mind, these motors like to be warm. Ideal coolant temp is right around 195.

I would put a 195 degree thermostat on the aluminum block LSx.
