110,000miles!!

I have a 99 ta going on 110. I really havent had any problems. The only things that i had to replace was belts and the stock clutch. And i had a hole in the pvc valve hose that connects to the tb. I've always changed my oil on time and changed my plugs/wires bout year ago. What should i be looking for to go bad or should go ahead and replace before it goes bad.

First off, congratulations! Obviously you take excellent care of the car. I think that tells the whole story. Just keep an eye on things and continue the maintenance as required. The Dexcool in FL is so important to keep at proper levels and you have done so, surviving quite a few summers of that stifling heat. Many posters here at LS1 have well over 150,000 miles. You will soon be one of those as well. We don't seee many posts from Starke, as most everyone with that address is on the 'inside'. You must be one of the good guys

just over 100k on my '00 and the water pump is leaking (probably gaskets) but i'm gonna replace the pump due to its age. might wanna keep an eye out for that.

Yea mine was leaking for about three days????? It was leaking from bottom of pump and It pissed me off so i was thinking of trading it in for a Titan, and i guess the engine knew i was thinking that so it fixed itself. Hasn't leaked in about 8 months

Yea going on 7 years old over 100,000 miles and still smokes my fiances 01 slowstang GT with half the miles..........every time!

For you auto guys, next time you get a tranny flush, request GM's new Dexron VI. Its twice as good as prior fluid. Its only available at GM dealers and its rather expensive at this point since they just released it. My buddy with a Typhoon tranny is running 15 degree's cooler with it.

Ive also got a printout of the service bulletin showing how much better it is than the V. All GM dealers will be switching over to the new VI.

Let's see....I just went over 113,000 miles, and here is my casualty list of things I've had to replace...

1. Passenger side power window motor at 75,000.
2. Rear pinion bearing at 65,000. I was having 3.73's put in when the bearing started making noise, so it was going to be replaced anyway with the gear swap.
3. Waterpump at 112,000. It was leaking for quite some time, and the antifreeze smell was getting too much for me.
4. EGR valve replaced at 80,000.
5. Just put on the 4th set of tires at 112,000.
6. 2nd set of plugs and wires at 75,000.
7. Serpentine belt 4 times.
8. 3 blown Monsoon speakers.

Not too much has gone wrong with this car. It's never left me on the side of the road either for any reason. One of the best cars I've owned, and I've owned plenty.

Hey, this is my first post as well, I just bought a 98 Trans Am totally stock with 125K miles. But I was lucky on this car because it was driven by a older lady and she was the original owner. So no mods were made and it was never raced. But I recently had to give it a front brake job, the water pump went bad at 125K miles so I got a new pump, thermostat, and I went on replaced all the hoses. While that was getting done, I got the plugs changed out. The car runs great but I want to get it tuned up before I start putting mods on it. Next up is to give it a tranny flush, injector cleaning, new fuel filter, and maybe new plug wires.

I had that happen at 103k. Are you sure it's coming from the gasket because there's a weep hole which coolant leaks out when the shaft seal breaks or wears out.

If it's coming from the bottom of the pulley, it's the weep hole. Feel the bottom back edge of the pulley and see if there's any coolant there first. I bet it's the weep hole due to over 100k. My gaskets leaked sometimes at at 80 or 90k. Replaced the gaskets and 20k later the weep hole leaked so I got a new water pump and reused the gaskets (they're aluminum with orange rubber seal on them, reusuable justl ike the intake mainfold rubber seals)

I have an tranny flush in plan for this spring. The new GM Dexron VI costs almost $5 a quart or almost $20 a gallon.
Looks like I"m gonna try it.

114k here, here's what had to be replaced other than normal maintenance.

Blistiens HD shocks on all four at 36k

Front brake calipers with ZO6 red powdercoated calipers at 80k due to driver caliper bleeder bolt being jammed.

Passgener side window switch at 88k
Rear axles and axle bearings at 98k
Water pump at 100k
Knock sensor at 113k
Front windshield from road rock damage at 113k

And I change my oil every 7k. None of my window motors have given up!

No window motors out on mine. Although the passenger side has started to slow. Probably will die within the year.

They are best to get replaced sooner than later because if you wait to long LIKE I DID, you may have them eat into an axle and have to replace it. Lukly I only had to replace one axle and I opted for a used one and that was at like 130,000

I didn't notice it b/c I'm hard of hearing. The shop that did my alignment recently noticed it during the test drive. They couldn't tell me if it was the axle bearings or the carrier bearings, they said they could do a rearend rebuild, quoted me $600. Not an option.

I had a hearing friend check it out and he thinks it's the axle bearings. I got new bearings and seals, pulled the axles and found they're chewed, which the only option is replacement of the axles.

GM dealer wants $300 per axle, no way I am paying that.
Got 2 Moser axles for $200 and they're on my car now.

You will need a axle bearing puller with a slide hammer. Autozone loans them out for free, but you have to put a deposit on it which will be refunded when you return the tool.

One thing I noticed is that when I pulled the stock axles out, they were like damp with gear oil, not like dipped in it which I thought the tubes would carry some gear oil inside for the axle bearings.

How does the axle bearings gets lubed and cooled then?

I prelubed the new bearings with gear oil during installation and I hope that helps a lil.

Yeah, I thought my gaskets were leaking one time. It was a great experiance to finally figure out that all that coolant was coming from a weep hole that I had no clue was there. I can now effectively swap a water pump in roughly 30 minutes, unless the seals have bonded to the engine block, then add an hour or more!

Front rotors a few times & pads once.

at 105k I've had to change the A/C Tensioner and Idler pullies, and other basic stuff... no sensors or anything so far...

I have strange noises from the rear end when I am coasting, or turning slowly... I've been told I need a rebuild... and I'm betting by now I need new axles as well... we'll see... I've never driven a car that's had problems with the rear, so this new to me...

I still don't know why GM put the crappy 7.5" 10-bolt on our cars... luckily you can find the good 8.5" for cheap... that may be what I do instead..

also, my passenger window has been slower than the driver since I have owned it... ~15k miles... what causes this, and would wire upgrades help this?
