    Black SS SLP#8834
    2002 35th Anniversary LS1

10,600 mile LS1. Is it broken in yet?

2002 SS here with 10,600 original miles on it. It uses Mobil 1 5W30. Factory calls for it.

Previous owner changed the oil at 967 miles, 4000 and for some odd reason at 9000 with Mobil 1 5W30. He saved each oil filter boxtop and recorded the odometer mileage on them.

I do not know if the LS1 motor is broken in yet. After reading Sarges useful and informative thread I'd like to try this Amsoil SSO 0-30 on a regular basis.

Stick with Mobil 1 Synthetic or Amsoil? The SS will only see 3000 miles a year or less for sure because I have 2 other daily driver F-bodies.

I am keeping this SS forever.

Go with that Amsoil. I plan on switching over from Pennzoil Platinum myself soon.

As for it being broken in....yes it is.
Still will loosen up a little more. They tend to make the best power around 30-70K on the clock.

    2016 Camaro SS - Summit
    2001 Trans Am WS6 - NBM

I use the SSO 0w-30, I switched from mobil 1 about 8-10k miles ago. One great thing about amsoil is they don't require near as frequent oil changes, which makes up for the cost. I'll probably change mine at 12k, even though Amsoil actually recommends you change later. The SSO has some great additives too. I have 155k on the clock, and did have a smoking issue before. Since the oil change, I have absolutely no smoke problems Of course, my car is a little more...uhh, experienced
