    02 TA - BCM question

I've read thoroughly threads here and elsewhere concerning BCM, issues and replacement.

My issue is windows and door locks not working intermittently .... and only once car is off. I'd shut car off .. roll down one window then other .. then go to roll up .. one would go a bit of way then stop .. then other wouldn't go up at all. I'd check door locks .. they'd be inoperable.

I'd start car back up .. wait .. try window or door buttons ... wait few seconds .. keep trying ... then eventually they'd all work again.

This sounds like BCM issue with bad solder .. though I didn't see too many mentions of door locks - just the radio with window issue (forget acronym of power while engine off for certain accessories).

I have buddy with garage who ordered a new BCM - they took the VIN so I am assuming if I replace it then it will auto-update since they asked for VIN... ??

I just got the car (02 TA WS6, 16k miles) a week ago .. only issue I've seen.

Other than BCM ... do these symptoms sound like any other issue?

    Thanks and great resource!!!

    02 TA - BCM question

Could be a faulty ground. IIRC there is a ground for the internal fuse box at the base of the door. Remove the plastic trim that goes next to the drivers seat. The ground should be along that side under the hood release.

I would still place my $$ on it being the BCM.

Well ... replaced the BCM ... that wasn't it.

Did some more "testing" ... it seemed to "crap out" after using window repeatedly ... all way down - make it half way up .. engine running or not now. Same thing with both sides ... at same time and separately. It wasn't the stop mechanism as trying to assist it didn't work. Was like motor was shutting down for some reason (overheating) or just had nothing left.

We'd wait a few minutes - then they would work again .. but repeat the failure.

So - was at my buddies shop ... ordered two NAPA Window Lift Motors (part@ 655-1489) ... $60 each ... I know they were more than Dorman's you can find on eBay .. but they are lifetime warrantied. So ... as it has happened ... if they shit the bed again ... its just matter replacement - which was about 20 minutes each door .. easy peasy.

Thanks .... will give me something to tinker with in the Fall.

I know many people get aggravated with issues - and they can be if they become overwhelming or of serious nature (motor, trans, etc.) ... but I've always loved tinkering - but also learned at times to leave some shit alone ... chose wisely and don't fix too much that ain't broke ... lol

I'd bet the motor is fine, check the regulator tough, It's where I'd put my money. Many troubles over the years with those. BTW, the solder mod would have been enough to fix the BCM.
