    Whats the best gear?

Well everytime i take it to a dyno guy my car will almost always get dynoed in 5th gear since my 4th is too short. Is this ok to do and is it accurate as to what your pulling to the wheels once the numbers pop up.

Thats what i thought to, ive heard you always do it in 4th as well. The only time i would think you would do it in 5th is short gearing and alot of power. My 93Z had to be done in 5th since the nitrous would make the car squirly in 4th.

You need to dyno the 1:1 gear.
Which is 4th in the M6 and 3rd with the A4.

5th is an overdrive gear and isn't nearly as strong. I don't go WOT in 5th or 6th with my car.

Try some belt conditioner on the tires to see if that helps it getting all over the place.

    ^This. It's always been the 1:1 gear.

If the car is getting squirrely on the dyno, tell the guy to put the purse down before cranking on the straps. I bet that will help also.

on my 93z it was terrible i had to have him put more straps to keep it on the dyno. As soon as the nitrous would hit the car would get squirly bad. On my 01Z28 isnt that bad he just said he wanted to do it in 5th because 4th is too short and it was moving around

The numbers won't be comparable if it was done in 5th before; you'd want it done the same. With a 4.11 car, it's not crazy to dyno in fifth, just unusual.
