    What Gear?

I was watchin this vid of a 2011 5.0 on the dyno. They did the run in 5th because of the 6speed manual and 3.73 gear option it is 1:1. My question is, do i have to do that with my car as well? i have a 6speed with 4.10's.

    This is the Vid

What ever transmission gear is 1:1, the rear gear doesn't play a roll in the choice.

Ya that would be normal for the new 5.0 mustangs. They made the first four gears steeper in that trans, coupled with the 3.73 rear gears, the car actually accelerates like it has 4.10's or more in it. So 5th is 1:1 and 6th is the only overdrive gear.

A few other 5-speeds have 5th gear as 1:1 instead of as an OD. Its to run an economy rear gear set up.

And some such as the Richmond 5 speeds run 5th gear as 1:1 and have no overdrive at all. But first gear is ridiculous, something like 3.27,,,,so you can run 3.00 gears or less.

Not really the way I prefer to do it. Steeper first gear ratios in the trans make it weaker.
