    AutoX F stock, Camaro SS?

The SEB is considering moving the Camaro SS (and comparable Firebird) into F stock for next year. The new mustang looked decent at Nationals but how will it compare to an SS. How will the 17x9 tires, differential and stiffer springs compare. I dont think the few extra ponies will make much difference, it is autocross after all where a 89 corvette is often quicker than a 96 lt4 corvette with 90 more HP.

Will the 275 wide Kuhmo tire be better on the 17" SS rims vs the 16" Z28 rims? Can you fit the 295 wide Kuhmo on a 17X9. The specs say you need 10" wide but who listens to specs.

How does the SS torsen diff compare to the stock torsen? Will is hold up to regular autox?

    wouldn't go bigger than 275s on 17x9
the diffs are identical from SS and z28... a better diff is a T2R.

I know the SS had an upgrade option for $999 in some years. 1996 for sure. The books I have say a "Torsen limited-slip".

Is this the same one they started putting in the camaros in in 1998 when the LS1 came out?

I think the upgrade you refer to may be the Auburn diff they put in some of the cars. Supposed to be more of an RR diff over the drag-oriented Torsen.

I think it was in 99 that it became the limited slip option. My 02 Z-28 has it.

Thank God - someone finally figured out that the SS and WS-6 really don't help that much (at least, not enough to go from FS to AS).

Yeah I've always been like "but......they're basically the same...." on that one. Doesn't matter to me as I go with the strategy of modding my car to be how I like it, and running as a novice in whatever category my mods place me in...but for people who take Solo2 seriously, it makes no sense to run an SS or WS6.

I haven't seen a problem with 285 wide on stock 17" SS wheels. There are some around here who have tried 295s on them... ...can't remember who...wish they'd chime in here.
