Who here drives their cars to the track?

Im sick of driving my car to the track. Its probably 50 miles one way give or take. I dont like beating my car for a few hours, then driving for 40 minutes home. My question is, who here drives thier Fbody/Vette/GTO to the track, then back home?

How far of a drive is it?
What power are you making? (roughly)
What tires are you using for the track, and to make the drive back to the homestead?

Its kinda cool to pull in, make your 1/4 mile pass's, then drive it home. Yes. But if something was to break, A tow bill would really put a big damper on the awesome times you made.

Drove my 87 supra there, it had 517whp and drag radials. Drove my T/A there when it had bolt ons and a eagle street tires. Drove it there and home when it had m/ts drag radials and 430whp on a dynojet, cam, stock head porting and supporting mods, stock 10 bolt with 4.10s. Me and a friend just went to the track 2 weeks ago to try and get his turbo 5.0 dialed in. The stang made 460whp off the wastegate spring boost, 7psi spring it boost 9psi. The stang also runs m/t drag radials. The drive to our track is about 30miles eachway. If one of my cars were to brake i have a ton of friends or friends of riends usually at the track or willing to drive down to the track and tow me back.

Do you change tires at the track? I just got my MT et streets back on today. I couldnt muster anything better then 2.0 60' with those crap Nitto DR's.

These miles are ONE WAY, not round trip. Sounds like your driving just as far as me. I hate it. I own a trailor, but need to rig up some kind of ramp to get my car onto it. The ramp now is way too steep.

Yeah, I just throw them in the car and change at the track, too damn expensive to wear out just driving there.

I carry my toolset, an air tank, a four-way lug wrench, a low-profile aluminum racing jack, and my slicks in the car. It looks kinda funny, but I love driving there and beating more than half the trailered cars.

Wow! I really wanna go to the track today and try for some 1.6/1.7's with better tires. I hate driving on these tires honestly, and they are almost worn out. Gotta make up my mind soon if im going today. I probably wont break anything, just paranoid.

I drive mine about 115 miles to the track.
Make some 13.0-13.1 passes and hope nothing breaks.
Then drive 115 miles back home.

I hate having to drive so far to the closest track moreso than having to drive the car I'm racing there....if that makes any sense. My last dyno was 315rwhp.

True badass Next week, Ill have a 15" MT Slick. Im not screwing around with the anything else. I have some free 15" MT that will be given to me for the remainder of the year. How bad will mixing a bias ply with a radial front be? Im wondering if I have to take the front skinneys from my friend as well. Yes, I have a very cool friend

I currently have the mixed set-up.
Changing when I can, but it works for now.

I always drive my car to and from the track - about 35 miles one way to Etown. I can see if it is 200 miles or something to trailer it. If you can't make 25 to 40 miles then take the plates off and never drive it on the street...

easy killer. You missed the point. If you break something, you have a trailor. If you have a set of slicks, its alot easier to throw them in the bed of a truck and install at the track.

99% of the time I drive to and from the track, the distance varies depending on where.
In Ohio I was driving my 70 formula to and from. Cinci to Norwalk and back for the Tri-Power Nationals,,,racing all weekend, using the car to cruise at night and get to the motel etc...
The local tracks in Cinci were still 60 miles one way,,,,and I drove to and from. Even my low 11 second chevelle is driven to the track. I run nothing but dragradials on that car 100% of the time. No big deal.
Here in Arizona I have about 110 miles to drive to the closest track,,,,still driving them, racing and driving home.

I only use an enclosed trailer for the larger venues where I am at the track all weekend. In which case I tow the car so I have a place to lock things up and sleep etc...But for just a day of racing it's not worth the hassle of towing, I just drive the car.

I just drive with the tires on the car. If using slicks I air them up a bit so the car doesn't squirm around so much at speed.
That was years back. Nowadays they make drag radials that work so well, I just leave them on the car all the time.
I want to do as little as possible once I'm at the track. Changing tires is too much work, I'd rather spend time tuning.

    ^^^This was meant for devil6rr.

You're not the only one! ORP is on the west side of Indy, and I live on the west side, about 6 miles from the track. I drive there and back, trying for another 12.x @ over 109. Hasn't happened this year yet, waiting for cooler fall weather. I have not had it on a dyno. No slicks, just my regular Eagle F1 tires.

I have 4 1/4 miles tracks 45 - 60 minutes from me but I also race at private rentals as far as 3 hrs away. I bought a trailer this year because I didn't want to get stranded and so that I could race farther away from home. The best thing about it is not being the last person leaving at 11 PM because I have to change wheels.

I'm not a slick/drag radial type of guy - drive it to the track, run it, and then go home. If something goes, call AAA and let them get it home.
