    Varies on set-up.

Normally an automatic car will trap lower (MPH) but run a quicker time (ET) than a manual car.

The most important section of the track is the first 60 feet. The quicker you knock that off, the lower the ET.

    Trap speed shows power.
ET shows how well it gets going.

When you spin...you tend to have a higher speed as well...since you basicly have more time to get up to speed.

yeah some people are quick off the line, and get down the track in less time, but built up less speed, because well, they ran out of track.

I've wondered about this too. Great explanation!

Car setup is a big part of the results. Rear end gears and tranny gearing along with where your engine generates the power can make a big difference in times and speeds. I know a guy who had an IROC with an auto tranny and 4.11 gears. He had a great 60 ft time but ran 16 secs because the car topped out halfway down the track. It's really all about knowing your car and how its built and what you want it to do.
It's not how fast you can go. It's how fast you can get there.

Yeah, he thought he was gonna rip me apart cause the car "felt fast on the street." I ran a 12.00 that pass against him. He put it back on the trailer and took it home. Sold it the next week. Cracked me up.

Good explanation Curtis. My best time to date has been a 13.168 @ 107.08 with a 1.902 60' time. So from what you're saying, my high MPH is a resultant of my dismal 60' as I understand it.

Think of it this way....next time you watch the drag races, check the guys who spin too hard off the line, they have a split second 60 ft, and end up getting down the track in 8 seconds, but only doing 80 mph. its cuz they got off to a good start, then got fucked.

on the other end of the spectrum are those salt flat cars, they haul ass, but their 1/4 mile times would suck

You may be incorrect on the 1st part. Usually a hard spin off the line will result in higher ET along with better MPH.

    Could be several things.
Your 60 foot isn't terrible, but it isn't great either.
Shifting plays a large role in an M6 car. Two different drivers can net pretty large differences in the same car.
I am willing to bet a good driver would easily get my car to 11.50-11.60 here...and I have only gotten 11.90.
