    Stock times?

I'll get to the track in the near future, but I'm curious what I can expect for times.

    00 WS6 A4 3.42 gears 35k miles.

How much will drag radials help?

02 SS convertable with auto and 3.23 gears. 3,820 lbs. race weight all stock went 13.78 at 102.52 mph. My 60 foot times never varied more than 1/100th all day with stock street tires,,,lol. Drag radials wouldn't have helped me but every track and every car is different. They may help you, just depends. Larry.

That is about what I ran before the converter on stock tires. After the converter I needed the DR's to hook. The converter was worth 4 1/2 tenths. I weigh 3740 with me in it at the track.

Thats cool. I am just a tad bit heavier than you. My weight I posted is with me in the car. I have been told by several people as you stated, that a good converter is worth 3-5 tenths alone. I am a little reluctant though to stick a converter in my stock trans.
Just for the simple fact that eventually these stock 4L60E's bite the dust and I would hate for that to happen after plunking down $800 on a new converter. I am waiting on the converter until a full rebuilt transmission is in order so I can upgrade the internals to last, then the converter will go in. Right now I am going to simply concentrate on the motor.

98 z28 m6. First time I took mine to the track i ran 13.7 at 103 all day. I had lowered my tire pressure down to 25 psi. the second time I lowered my tire pressure down to 20 psi. same track temp I ran a 13.42 with spinning out of the hole or bogging down. it all goes into how you launch your car and the tires. I know I could a better time if I had a great launch.

Stevegrizzle, maybe you know my son Jarrod (01_Ram-Air) He lives in the Tampa area. Anyway, He has an 01 TA WS-6, stock with the exceptions; Lid, headers/exh, DRs, and a Yank 4000 converter. He ran 12.18 @ 109, 1.60 60ft, front tires in the air. OH Yea, A4 His converter picked him up 1 full second. His tranny is stock, and I think he has between 75,000 to 90,000 miles, I can't remember. The 4L60E is stronger than you think, or we give it credit for. Sean00ws6, my son weighs around 220, and the cars should weigh about the same. I forgot, he just put some skinnies on the front so he will be a little lighter. Go to the track and have fun. Remember, you have one of the fastest stock street cars out there to start with. Good Luck, Gunny

Yeah, remember I'm m6 and I was only on 245 nittos 555's so I'm sure I has some left in the launch. I want to get some sfc's and bigger tires and go for .1.7 60's should put me in the 12.3-12.4 range but no matter how well I drive I don't think I can keep up with an auto with a converter and the same mods.

BTW my car is catless and untuned but only weights 3233 (no power options, cruise, and rear seat and junk halfassedly removed)

Now thats the kind of info that really helps here. We can't really compare our cars to others here without info like weight.

Alot of people here are removing there rear seats (which is bizzar to me) and other things to lighten their cars as much as possible, but then only posting that my car ran such and such a time, then everyone is like WOW! Thats a great running car for stock.

If I am going to race a street car I am going to race it in street trim, just like I drive it on the street, back seat and all. I don't drive around daily with my back seat gone, and I want my dragstrip times to reflect that.

It kind of reminds me of the ricers at the track. In the pits you see them all removing there back seats, spare tires etc....I look thoughout the pits and you see piles of interior

When I ran mine, I even had the laptop in the trunk, spare tire, and even some cleaning supplies as well as my back seat. Ya all that stuff adds weight, but it's more realistic as to what you would find on the street.

Thanks Steve for letting that info out, it really helps to explain things. Larry.

I ran a 13.66 @ 103, with a 2.16 60' on hard worn out street tires spinning half way thru first and 140,000 miles. The temp was low 40's.

Larry I ddint gut the car by any means but i probably pulled a good 50 lbs of my junk out and the rear seat cushions and spared tired and jack. I don't really see it as ricerish to give your car optimal conditions to run under so I don't really follow you there, and I think i probably see this the same way a lot fo people do; and that is the whole point of drag racing is to get the best possible time and mph. I do know that I actually have to shift my gears manually so it is much more skill laden than punching the gas and steering by hey, to each his own.

Now that I think about I was coming from work and I did leave my laptop in the car so I guess i can match you on that at least.

I only say I see it as ricey because 90% of the time I see the foreign cars doing it. I guess it's just us older guys see it as a little silly. I've always felt that if it's a street car then race it as such. If pulling seats and interior peices is your thing then you may as well make a dedicated race car out of it with a racing bucket, aluminum panels etc...I was watching people in the pits who drove their cars in,,,removing the passenger seat as well Thats a little rediculous I think. Why don't we just dismantle the entire car and go race on just a frame and some wheels If you look at it in that extreme you can see where I am coming from,,,it's just not realistic once the car is back on the street in full trim to say,,,"oh my car ran 12.50" but neglect to mention you had 300 lbs. of it laying in the pits
In the late 50's the NHRA rule book would put your car in a different race class if you removed the back seat, didn't matter if you were running a 283 2 barrel, if the back seat was removed you were moved up a class against much faster cars.
I just don't do it, simply because I don't feel it's an honest time for a true street car. Anything can go faster if you lighten it. I would love to lighten my chevelle, as it sits it's 4,108 lbs. and runs 11.40's at 118 mph on pump gas all motor, and has working A/C, full exhaust DOT tires, etc......I would love to lighten the car, if it weighed 3500-3600 lbs. it would break into the 10 second zone easily, it would be nice to brag about, but I'm not willing to strip the car to do it. To me it's more impressive to see a heavy car go fast. Larry.

Yeah pulling apart the interior is a little extreme I agree, but if youre into it it doesnt bother me and therefore I dont see the need to criticize it and call people that have different view than me rices.

I go to the track to have fun and see if I have got any faster. That would be hard to do if you went to the track then started removing parts. Unless you did it every time, how could tell if your car was any faster than before?

I also remember Hot Rod magazine took a stock 80's Cadillac { it ran high teens} and removed all of the body parts and any unnecessary parts. There goal was to get it into the 12's. Well after removing all the parts it did run in the 12's. Did the car get faster? I guess so, but is that how you would want to get faster ?
