    Stock 02 A4 2.73 gears

Here's the results of some mods to my bone stock 02 Z28.

1st run was bone stock with a dirty paper filter. The car is an 02 Z28 with 57,000 miles and A4. It has 2.73 gears. DA was between 1100 and 1450 for most of the night.

    Run 1 was 13.71 at 103.29

I changed to a clean air filter and ran 1 pass. My guess is the old filter had 27,000 miles since the last record of an air filter service that I got with the car was at 29,800 miles. It was in pretty bad shape.
    13.54 at 104.82

I changed to a Granatelli lid and ran two passes.
    Run 1 was 13.44 at 105.94
    Run 2 was 13.41 at 106.21

I then did the free ram air mod and did two more passes.

    Run 1 was 13.33 at 106.99
    Run 2 was 13.25 at 107.96

Considering that the DA had dropped some while I was running and that the computer probably hadn't fully adapted to the less restrictive intake, my guess is I picked up .2 tenths by having a lid and the free ram air mod. That's 20 hp for a $140. Of course I also got about 20 hp going from a dirty old filter to a new one and that was $12.

I filled up and drove hame and got 30 mpg at 75mph on the highway too. You just have to love LS1 power.

I also got to run an 07 Mustang GT. The guy had an exhaust, an intake and had done a Diablo tune. He ran a 13.42 at 103.88 versus my 13.41. He beat me at the light for the win by about a half a car length. Another 100 feet and I had him though. That was also his best ever run with the car.

Another thing is, I improved almost a full half second and 4.5 mph with spending $150. I think the next half second is going to cost at least 10 times the first half second.

Most of the 60' times were in the low 2.0's. I didn't break into the 1.9's at all and didn't get worse than a 2.07.

I turned the ASR off. I clean the tires with a light burnout.

I held the RPM's at around 1200, eased into the throttle so that by the 60' mark, maybe a bit earlier, I was into it all the way.

The track prep was ok, not the best not the worst.

Headers and a cat-back are next. That's good to know.

Looking at my slips, I picked up .114 on the first pass with the free ram air and on the second picked up .118 in the 1/8. Looks like we got about the same result.

Traction isn't that big of a problem with 2.73's as long as you have decent tires

Lots of good mods out there, and some of them combine- such as intakes and exhaust- a better exhaust will make the intake side work a little better to, the whole engine will flow more air- Nice baseline numbers- lots of potential still in the car-
