Is a shift kit proven performance?

I had one but I had to swap out my valve body and my new valve body needs modified again if I wanna put it back in.

I was just wondering how much a difference do they really make.

    Does anyone know?

they can be tuned to shift firmer and faster pretty much the same thing as a shift kit but any good tranny rebuild shop can go into the valve body and make it do it too without a shift kit i had a guy do it to my iroc z w 700r4

this is just my opinion but you can get the car to shift pretty good with just tuning. There are a lot of parameters you get control of so if it's any hassle at all I'd lean towards just getting the tranny tuned. You can increase line pressure, shorten shift times, and remove torque management with tuning software. Those 3 things will be a night and day difference over stock settings.

I think a shift kit is as much about adding longevity to the tranny as well as performance. Reducing the shift overlap help reduce friction during shifting and thus reduces heat and helps the tranny last. The tranny is tuned for comfort (smooth shifting) so doing this will reduce that smoothness...

I've read that a shift kit is better at really increasing line pressure than a tune, but that those other parameters can be done via tuning just as well, like Orion said...

I've read that too. I hope someone posts up with some actual ET differences.
