Sorry to say Top Fuel Funny Car driver Eric Medlen died today from a crash he had on Mon. in Gainsville testing for the Nationals this weekend.......
He had a tire blow out and it put him into the wall head on at well over 250mph.
It is a major blow to the Force Team and all the NHRA teams....... This weekends event will have a VERY bad cloud over it!!!

My prayers and thoughts will be with his family.......

Yes him and his father were ALWAYS VERY nice down to earth people.
Everytime I talked with them in the pits they talked to me not just blowing you off like others.
It is a GREAT loss........ The last time I remember a TopFuel driver dying is Blain Johnson in 1996 at the US Nationals in INDY............ I was there and it looked bad!!! That was a bad race for NHRA there was a 2 deadly accidents. A Pro motorcycle went down on the top end killing the rider also.

Eric was "only" doing 125-175 when he brushed the wall. It was MAJOR tire shake/oscilliation that did him in. Afetr 40+years, the ONLY other time I saw it happen was in the 70's at OCIR. I was wrenching on John Loper's "Little Hoss" FC. The last TF dragster went down ahead of us, MAJOR tire shake, coasted through and went into the sand. A few days later, he died from "severe brain lacerations". SORRY, I can't remember his name. After all these years, some spent with the "Safety Safari" (anybody want a perfect Winston Safety Safari golf shirt????) I've seen several drivers so dis-oriented that they tried to walk back down the track.
