    Question?

I have an 02 SS M6 SLP optioned car with stock 3.42 gears and some of the usual basic mods, (lid, exhaust, wheels/tires and tune). I recently changed to 3.73's and was very disappointed with the results. While I did see a little improvement, I was expecting more. So, I was wondering which gear you guys think I should go with, 3.90 or 4.11? Also, what gas mileage can I expect with these gears?

If the 3.73's didn't excite you any, go straight to the 4.10 gears. Figure 5'th & 6'th are both overdrive gears, and will still be good on the street !

That's because you went with 3.73's. Atleast 4.10's for an M6 car. I actually have 4.30 gears on both my LT1 and LS1.

Thanks...........any idea what kind of gas mileage with 4.10's. I know, why worry about gas mileage but gas is still pretty high around here. Just curious!

It all depends on what your goals are. 3.73's on a 6-speed f-body aren't going to do a lot for that seat of the pants feeling. If your car is driven primarily on the streets, 4.10's or 4.30's will really wake that car up. As for gas mileage, I didn't notice a substantial reduction in mileage in going from the 3.42's to the 3.90's -- most of the 4.10 guys say the same. As for in town driving, you simply get to use your overdrive gears more often.

Personally, I went with 3.90's because of the mods I had planned and I wanted to finish a quarter mile pass right at the top of 4th gear (which should be good for a trap speed around 128 mph). 3.90's for my setup work like a charm.

Thanks.............do you think that I will have to make an extra shift in the quarter with 4.10's?
