Need 6spd Driving Tips

Hey guys,

I am new to the board and am from NY. I have with the help of many, and alot of money built what I believe to be a very stout car, and am hoping for high 10's. I have never been down the track before and am intimidated by the car. So I have signed up for Drag racing School with Doug Foley, at ATCO raceway in NJ. However the soonest class I could get is in October. I definetly want to race the car before then, but most importantly I want to do it safely and also try to avoid looking like an idiot if at all possible. So I guess my question realy comes down to anyone out there running an MM6 car in 1/4, how you are shifting launchin etc... OK with that said I will now ramble off whats in the car, and thank you guys in advance for even reading this.

LS1 custom Grind Cam 598/601 Titanium valve train 397.3RWHP (No spray)
NX Wet Shot 75HP (in the MAF)(SLP C6 Style MAF) (Have not yet Dynoed with Juice)
Kooks Custom LT Headers 1/34 Primary 3.5" collector Kooks Y-Pipe with twin Kooks CATS Borla From there back (it has a legit NY state inspection)
MM6 017V From Rockland Standard and Gear (full race setup 31 Spline Output Shaft) Exedy Clutch
Hotchkiss Sway bars front/rear
HotchKiss Strut Brace
Hotchkiss Trailing arms and adjustable Panhard bar
SLP Chromloy Torque Arm
SLP Sub Frame Connectors
Billstein Shocks Custom Valved for Drag Launch
93 V6 rear springs stock front srpings
DTS 12 Bolt Rear 4.10 gears/Eaton Posi 30 Spline Axles
Vehicle currently has BFG KDWS Street Tires on C5 Rims. (I have 15x8 Centerlines on the way with MT et DR's 275\50\15 have not yet ordered Skinnies for the front)
Wolfe Race Craft 6 Point Bar with Simpson harnesses. Vehicle is also equipped with Drive Shaft loop, Line Lock, Stainless brake lines, Fire Blanket (trying to be as safe as possible, I am intimidated by this car)

OK I guess thats enough rambling allthough I am sure I have left something out, but you get the idea I am sure.. I am told this setup should yiled high tens on the juice, and low 11's on motor. This may be true, but I need to be able to to turn those numbers its nothing to think what your car can do I need the slips, and welcome any advice in getting this monster down the 1320. I appreciate everyone's time. I am new to the board and will have to get pictures, and somekind of dancing girl logo to be sure I properly fit in. I will work on that tonight. thanks again.

weight type of weight reduction have you done if any?

start off w/ the tire pressure at 17 or 18 psi.

1st run just launch off idle.

2nd run launch the car from 2k. slip the clutch a lil.

3rd " launch from 3k slip the clutch.

4th " launch from 3500 slip the clutch a lil.

after those just get used to the car and where you feel comfortable launching from.

shift the car around 6500 in all gears.

if you bring your car to atco, id gladly help you track side w/ the car and the setup.

the school wont help you really, that school uses rail cars not street cars so i think itll defeat the purpose.

and the most important advise i can give you is "seat time.seat time.seat time." and practice. thats how you get good times.

im launching at 5500 w/ the MT DRs at 17 psi and shifting at 6800 and im not power shifting.

Thanks alot amn i appreciate the detailed reply, I will aslo check out the site mentioned by the other member. When do you run at ATCO, what is there Test N Tune day.?, or do they have a street legal night..? I would love to come out and run the car. I have not yet had my roll bar certified, so not sure if tech will be an issue, again I am new to all of this so not sure.. It is late in the season and hope to get the car out at least once. Hey waht do you think of Island Dragway, they are a, little closer to me

Doubtful you'd run low 11's on the motor. Be lucky to get 11's at all. Fastest six speed cam only guys I know run 11.5-11.6. Half of this is driving and if you've never done it before you may be disappointed.

forget about the cage now, thats just weight. do it a lil later, they wont say anything till you go under 11.49 and thats if they catch you. ive gone under that time and nothing has been said to me for not having a cage.

they run tues and thurs nites. then soon there gonna start running TnT on the weekends.

go to www.atcorace.com for there schedule.

at the least go to E-Town dont bother w/ island.
