My first time at the track

    2002 WS6 A4
275/40ZR-17 98W BFG GFORCE SUPER SPORT ALL SEASON Tires

So I finally got my car where I wanted it. I bought it back in January of this year and have slowly been going through things. It was a one owner with 49,000 and they didn't abuse the car, but they also didn't do all the little maintenance things either. It is my daily driver and I have 55,000 on it now.

I was pretty happy with my times last night since a few buddies were predicting that I would only run a low 14 or so. The car is stock except for an SLP air lid. I am also running a Fram paper filter if that means anything.

My first pass I ran a 13.56 at 103.77 and my second and best pass I ran a 13.47 at 104.10. I ran 2 more times but the tires were not holding so they were a little slower. My 60ft times were 2.13 and 2.10 respectively, so I know there is improvement to be made here.

    What do you guys think?

good times and I would stop listening to whoever was predicting a best of low 14's. Pretty much all of these cars will run mid 13's no matter what the conditions are unless it's driver error so either they don't know the car or thought you can't drive. Get some DR's and you should be knocking on 12's door.

I don't think I am brave enough to throw on the DR's. I would eventually like to be at 12.5 or so with street tires.

Is a stall all that streetable? I would hate to lose the ability of that.

The coolest thing I took from last night was what the new Camaro SS and the Mustang 5.0 were running. I say cool because I paid a fraction of what those cars go for and I was wanting to buy one originally. There were 2 SS's and one 5.0, and they were all around 14 seconds. The mustang was a stick which I can understand that a little bit, but the Camaro's were autos. I know they have a little less power, but I was still surprised.

Very comparable to our car when it was first run at the track. Pretty cool letting it rip on the 1/4, isn't it?

Nice times. Now you can tell your buddies to shut up, they don't know how to predict anything, or they don't know the power of the LS1. What did they say when you showed them the timeslips?

Yeah I had a blast letting it rip. I have been to the track before on a 2006 Suzuki SV650. I ran 12.3 with it, but it was honestly a lot better in the car. I never got to take my 08 GSXR600, but I don't think it would have mattered.

My buddies were really surprised. I won't mention the track, but they just hadn't seen these cars basically stock run that. They came to the conclusion that I must just have a healthy car "that was built on a Wednesday." I thought that was pretty hilarious.

I also raced an 04 Mach 1 w/skinnies in the front, DR's, and at the least an exhaust, and he asked me if I was spraying. That really made me laugh when I told him I just had a lid.

It is kind of humorous -- my friends that day had an '07 Mustang GT and a '70 Dodge Dart with a crate 360 pushing 390 hp. Our car was the fastest of the three by 6/10ths. They have both been throwing parts at their cars... as have I. Neither one of them expected a stock F-body to run like that.

Thank you guys. I'm now going to wait to run again in October to see if that makes a big difference or not. I'm also going to try another track here in Oklahoma that is good for (so I hear) another tenth or so due to elevation and track prep.

    Very much so.
Would be good for several tenths off that time as well.
    Yank 3400 would be great.

You have a A4 DR's will not be a issue for you. 3500 stall and LT and I ran 12.5's all day long.. Like you I started in the 13.5 range here in Tulsa. You can DD a 3500 with LT for many years with no issues.. Just put the DR's on before you go to the track. Heck you can DD them but they will wear pretty quick.

Yeah, because even if you don't want your tires wet they are going to be since you can't drive around it. They puddle it everywhere.

Was your first run at Tulsa Int or Thunder Valley?
