Moving up from 245 rear tire

My camaro has 245/40/18's on the rear on a 10" rear wheel. First i wanted to ask if there was anything wrong with running narrow of a tire on a 10" wheel. The next question i am asking is that im not sure which tire width to go with next spring and was looking for what would work best, and what i can expect to run after i upgrade tires. I couldnt catch traction in first at all, im an a4 with a 3600 stall, and Lt's. Best 60' was like a 2.1-2.3 and my 1/4 was a 12.9. Any guess on what ill be running after tire upgrades? Currently I have 255 on a 9.5" and that is to narrow. 285-305 would fit well.
I have all the bolt-ons (no stall)and on the stock 16" wheels I was doing 12.7 with a 1.94 60ft.
If you are looking for dr's I would go back to the 16" if you could.

yes i eventually am going to end up buying 16's but my car came only with the 18's and for now i just want to buy tires until i can afford another set of wheels
