Bright Red- 2000 Pontiac Trans Am WS6
Made a few passes @ MIR...lol.
They call me Mr. Hotlap...lol....
Went to a daytime private track rental yesterday at MIR (aka Maryland International Raceway). Great track. That was the first time I went there and it was 100 miles away so I trailered my junk down to be safe.
Made a few passes to dial in suspension and driver...
Run.....R/T.........60'.........ET..........MPH.........Time
1 --- .102 ----- 1.62 --- 11.86 --- 113.7 ---- 9:24am
2 --- .071 ----- 1.60 --- 11.74 --- 114.9 ---- 9:34am
3 --- .075 ----- 1.61 --- 11.77 --- 114.6 ---- 9:44am
4 --- .050 ----- 1.61 --- 11.73 --- 115.1 ---- 9:48am
5 --- .001 ----- 1.60 --- 11.76 --- 114.9 ---- 9:59am
6 --- .018 ----- 1.61 --- 11.74 --- 114.7 ---- 10:02am
7 --- .249 ----- 1.60 --- 11.76 --- 114.6 ---- 10:07am (sleepy R/T)
Took a little break...
8 --- .074 ----- 1.59 --- 11.72 --- 115.1 ---- 10:55am
9 --- .068 ----- 1.61 --- 11.76 --- 115.0 ---- 11:02am
10 -- .093 ----- 1.62 --- 11.79 --- 114.5 ---- 11:13am
11 -- .205 ----- 1.61 --- 11.75 --- 115.0 ---- 11:17am (sleepy R/T again)
Took a SHORT break...and tried tightening up rear shocks. (it spun next 2 runs)
12 -- .086 ----- 1.89 --- 12.10 --- 114.4 ---- 11:39am (tried launching at 2400)
13 -- .256 ----- 1.64 --- 11.81 --- 114.6 ---- 11:44am
Put STRANGE shocks back to setting 4 on driver's side, 6 on passenger side
14 -- .024 ----- 1.62 --- 11.80 --- 114.7 ---- 12:07pm
15 -- .204 ----- 1.61 --- 11.75 --- 115.1 ---- 12:11pm (was trying new launch rpm)
16 -- .196 ----- 1.63 --- 11.73 --- 115.6 ---- 12:15pm (same as above)
17 -- .011 ----- 1.63 --- 11.73 --- 115.5 ---- 12:18pm
Actually watched some racing for a while....
18 -- .086 ----- 1.58 --- 11.74 --- 114.1 ---- 2:16pm
19 -- .186 ----- 1.60 --- 11.70 --- 115.6 ---- 2:19pm
20 -- .045 ----- 1.60 --- 11.71 --- 115.2 ---- 2:23pm
Decided at this point to load the car up and start heading home...
This was a $100/per car rental, but I think I got my money's worth...lol. I was able to datalog several passes and fine tune my shift rpm's, as well as see how the new rear suspension was going to work.
My previous best was 11.67@115 w/1.58 sixty foot, but that was at Cecil on November 24th, so weather was quite a bit different than yesterdays and I still ran nearly the same ET, at the same MPH. Also had a full tank of gas yesterday, instead of 1/4 tank I usually run. Overall, I cannot complain. Race weight according to MIR's scale...3755#'s
Heading to Cecil next weekend for a T&T.

Thanks. That's why I bought an LS1. I've had Mustangs for the last 12 years and watched a SOM Trans Am make like 18 passes in a row and the car was dead consistent every pass. This car doesn't seem to care if it's hot or cold, launched at idle or 1500, or whatever...It hooks, pulls the driver's wheel up, and goes...

Thanks, but I know bumper support isn't going anywhere. The car definitely hooks, and is definitely consistent. I think I may go up a little on the stall. Right now I have a 3600 Vig.
Here's another pic or two from yesterday.

STOCK 10 bolt with a Summit girdle.
342 geared rear is a 3 channel style out of a 1995 6 speed Z28 that I converted to a 4 channel and just added the girdle recently. It is the Auburn carrier.
I have two complete spare rears though, lol. One with a Torsen differential, and one with an Eaton aftermarket one.

get subframes, panhard rod, and strut tower brace and you'll shave some time off

Tires are 275/50/15 MT Drag Radials on 15x10 ProStars.
I recently added:
Strange adjustable rear shocks
Spohn chassis mount torque arm
Spohn adjustable panhard bar
SLP boxed lower control arms
Front suspension is still 100% stock, even still has front swaybar
FWIW, the rear suspension changes didn't do anything for my car. It hooked everytime when it was all still original rear suspension parts too...
I do want to add subframe connectors since it's a t-top car and is definitely twisting on launch though.

That car is hooking up very well for what little suspension mods you have. Any plans for front suspension or weight savings?

Well, I'd say no to the weight reduction for one reason. I bought the car because I liked all the "stuff" it came with, so all the typical items that are removed, aren't going anywhere from my car. At some point, I may swap to a lighter k member and control arms with some adjustable struts just to get some weight off the nose, but I doubt I'll ever be able to gut my car out, or even come close.
It won't have a rollbar in it either. I've already been down that road a few times and regretted it most every time. I'd rather speculate of what it could run at XXXX weight, than to gut it, cage it, and spray it, then hate it 6 months later. Which is what would happen with me. Right now, I love the car, love how it's reacted to the few mods it has, and still actually enjoy cruising it around whenever I can.

Yeah I totally agree with you. I'd like to save a bit of weight but in inconspicuous ways like suspension and brakes etc. Nothing that will affect the comfort of the car. Isn't it a requirement though to have a 6 pointer when running 11.99's and quicker?? I guess I wouldn't mind making one pass a season and getting thrown out if my car was that fast...lol.

That's good to hear. Just got to figure a way to run 11.50's....maybe sandbag off the line. 11.50 at 145mph....lol

you might be able to get both wheels off the ground with subframes
