That's sad to hear. It's just another instance where it shows it's important to go out and support your local tracks.
Our entire Yavapai County Fairgrounds completely shut down last month. First the horse racing track went bankrupt. On the other portion of the property was a 1/2 mile dirt oval for sprint cars and such. Turn 4 was on part of the horse track owners property. Instead of letting the dirt track owner buy that portion for turn 4, they ended up shutting the entire facility down. There was an insurance conflict with the race track since turn 4 was on the horse racing property. So now the horse racing and the dirt oval track is closed. Makes no sense. Now there are no carnivals, no gun shows, no festival days.....That just cost people their jobs, no money coming into the community business, no tax money for the county,,, it's a huge steam roll affect.
The owner of the dirt oval even offered to buy the entire fairgrounds, but they are upside down in it, and the bank wants their $14 million back. Pffff, not in this economy. The dirt track owner offered half that but the bank turned them down. He was even getting ready to build a 1/4 mile dragstrip too. Now it's all closed, Sad.Last edited by Firebirdjones; 10-05-2011 at 12:03 PM.

Very sorry to hear this -- is there another track anywhere in your area?

Yes Thunder Valley which is about a 2 1/2 hour drive. I am about 20 minutes from Tulsa Raceway Park. So I could drive there on skinny and slicks with no issues. Just means I will only go to the track a few times a year. The track was going to be sold about 8 years ago and someone bought it to keep it a track. New tower, new stands, new surface, improved pits, etc etc.... We lost a year due to the rebuild. When it finally opened again I was the first car down the track. I have a photo of that first new pass.. I need to look it up.
The track also won NHRA track of the Year last year. Many many people say the track at TRP is the best in the nation.Last edited by Z28Thunder; 10-05-2011 at 07:12 PM.

That really sucks. Our track is exactly 100 miles from home and it's about a 2 hour ride. There is an eighth mile track and one other track that are both a bit closer, but I have never been to them.
