How much horsepower to lift the front wheels?

How much horsepower does it take to lift the front wheels? My friend has a honda and I want to race him and let him get the jump so I can go after him and land my front wheels on his spoiler (better gas mileage).

not as much about the power as it is the suspension. while i did have around 450 rwtq i came close. horsepower isn't going to lift your wheels.

You need the right set up in your suspension and about 500 hp

And like said, HP doesn't lift wheels....traction and weight transfer does.

Besides...you usually go faster with all four wheels on the ground

Im with the guys above... I've seen various power levels pull the front wheels up, but its all in weight transfer.

No power mods!?!?! What kinda suspension do you need for that? I was j/k about the honda but I'm going with the guy who posted a picture. It seems like it would take more than a few ponys to lift the front wheels. That's always been a goal of mine though, I want a car that can lift the front wheels if for nothing more than shock value.

It has been said already that you need alot of torque, but more importantly and not having been said is total weight? The overall weight of a chassis as well as the proportion of weight front/back has alot to do with it. Chassis suspension setup is very important! Usually a spring/shock setup in front that has the suspension unload easily ( 90/10 shocks or adjustable coilovers set to the correct setting) and the rear will allow a quick squat with a slower return and unload slower. This will allow maximum weight transfer and allow you to pull wheels on the street with the aid of good drag radials or slicks.

Properly setup you can lift the wheels with a bone stock engine and either a 28-3000 stall or a nice clutch dump.

Unfortunatley I have already seen factory suspension Pusstangs lift the wheels with factory horsepower and suspension.

It takes "instant center"

A few suspension tweaks to change the instant center and move it up and closer to the rear of the car is what aids weight transfer. More instant center equals a more violent transfer of weight.
That coupled with a few other tricks will yank the front tires. Doesn't necessarily take a ton of torque to do it. As a matter of fact, rear gear is a multiplier of torque,,,,so if you don't have enough, put more rear gear in it

Ever watch NHRA stock and super stock racing? In some of the lower stock classes these guys aren't making huge power numbers, and some are lucky to trap 100-102 mph,,,but they run in the 12's with proper suspension setups, gears, and converters to utilize what they have, they also pull enormous wheel stands that is an absolute blast to watch. Just goes to show it doesn't necessarily take power.

Without the proper suspension, won't you do more harm than good pulling the tires up every now and then?

I don't think you're going to pull the front tires without proper suspension. You'll just spin/have a massive amount of wheel hop, or break something.

Makes sense, I was thinking more about what happens when the car comes slamming down.
