G Tech Times
I borrowed a buddies G tech to check out my times. It's the old version. I used it a few years ago on a celica I had and the times were spot on for what it would run in the 1/4, but I never bothered comparing trap speeds. I think the times for the camaro are good but the trap speeds seem very high to me. I'm curious if anyone has used a g tech and compared trap speeds to the actual trap speeds at the track and how far off they are.
I ran 13.47 @114.1 the first run and 13.19 @ 116.2 the second run. I believe with a little more peddling I can get into the 12.9s and with DRs maybe 12.8s. Not bad for 4.10s, catback and lid.

I believe the times themselves are pretty on. My celica ran low 14s and the G tech ran the same times when I tested it a few years ago. I just never checked the trap speeds and those traps for the camaro are high.

G-techs are typically fairly close in ET (within a few tenths), but notoriously high in MPH.

Yes I'd say the traps are high. Thanks for the feedback. I'm looking forward to the track in the spring. I'm hoping with LTs, ORY and P&P TB I'll be well into the 12s.
The celica had a full exhaust, intake and me driving it.

ya i have a gtech meter. i never been to a track but i read that the trap speed will be off unless you change the pitch setting on the meter. the times are supposed to be close.

The g-tech speed is correct. The trap speed is an average between two lights. My g-tech RR was accurate within .01 ET and showed 2 mph fast over the time slip. A second run did not prove quite so accurate with the ET but the trap speed again was about 2 mph faster than the slip showed.

My personal experience is that the G-Tech MPH is 3-5 on the high side over what is shown in a timeslip.
As you stated, a timeslip shows an average over the last 90 ft of a run vice actual MPH at the very end. However, that is the standard that we have all been using for many years, and this is the metric from which a comparison should be made.

Thanks for the responses. I feel pretty good about the times and 3-5mph variance on the trap speed makes sense to me. I figure a couple more runs with the Gtech should yield 12.9s. I'm really looking forward to see what I can do at the track next spring. By then I will at least have DRs and P&P TB, maybe LTs too.
You'd be surprised how much you pick up when you uncork high RPM 4 cylinders, especially a 2000 and up celica GTS. Once you've gone that far picking up more hp is way too expensive one of the reasons I got rid of it that and I was a bit bored of it. It was fun though beating mustang GTs with it.
