Finally got some runs in with the new car

Took my new car to the track. I discovered 2 things. I need new stickier tires, and I forgot how much fun it is to Drag race. I was hoping to get into the 12's, but it didn't happen.

1st Run against a turboed civic that looked like it came from a garbage can:

    60... 2.297
    330...6.078
    1/8...9.052
    1000...11.571
    1/4...13.686
    MPH 106.97

The civic ran a 14 something

    2nd run was

    14.005@105.68
    with a freaking 2.49 60' because I spun like crazy through 1st and 2nd.

    3rd Run was

    13.497@108.486
    with a 2.1 60

that time I bogged the launch trying not to spin. Spun anyways at the top of first gear. Seems like my car pulls really hard, my trap speeds were decent. I really need to get some new tires. In my old A4 WS6 I used to get sub 1.7 60' times. Tonight for some reason I just couldn't catch traction off the line. I think the car is definitely capable of running 12's as it is.

Should I keep the 373 gears, or go to 410/411? (depending on which rear end I go with) My car is an M6 with only headers, exhaust, CAI, Full Suspension and 373 gears. Thanks for any advice, and as always I had a freaking blast. I have 243 heads, a Comp custom grind cam, and LS6 intake/ported tb waiting to go on just sitting in my garage. My goal is 11's W/O spray.

Congrats on getting it to the track. You definitely need to get that 60' time down. If you are planning on DRs for track use a lot of people have good success with M/T's. What RPM were you feathering the clutch at? I found when I was stock with my 3.42 gears that I was getting a 2.05-2.10 60' time when feathering out at 3K.

Do you have any suspension mods?

I personally have the Nitto 555R's and have cut a 1.906s (which was dumping it at 4500) and I had a lot of wheelhop b/c of that...so I think if I feather the clutch out at like 5K I can cut that down to a 1.8. I'm a M6 with 4.11 gears with relocation brackets/LCAs/SFCs/and Torque Arm. With the 1.906 I ran a 13.19 at 107mph.

I have aftermarket lower control arms, UMI panhard bar, subframes, rlocation brackets, and 373's. I really think it was the tires because I have been to the track tons of times with my 98 WS6 and never had this much trouble launching it. I even did better in my 06 GTO. I was launching at around 3K the first run and around 2200 after that because of not wanting to spin. It didnt matter though, once I got into the powerband I spun in first no matter what.

3.73s just aren't much of an advantage over 3.42s. Personally, I'd go with a 4.10 (or even a 4.30). Once you have tires that will hook, the shorter gear will help with the launch (the 2.66 1st gear in your T56 hurts) and will put you closer to optimum rpm in 4th as you cross the line (will still be short, but better).

Good luck - and get some sticky tires! Honestly, that's all you need to be in the 12's right now.

Yeah I appreciate the advice on the gears. I am definitely getting some Drag Radials for next time I go. I had 555s on my auto WS6. It was frustrating not having them. I need to get a new transmission too because 3-4 synchros are goin out. My car also has 19" wheels which I don't really care for(I dont think it makes that much difference maybe a 10th right?)

The 19s are not helping you at all.... Get a set of stock wheels and put on some drag radials on just for the track and you will have your 60' time back down.

    Sadly now demodded :(

Are you encountering any wheel hop? If so then you might want to consider LCA relocation brackets as well. And maybe an adjustable TA to correct the pinion angle.

I'm trying to trade for a set of C5Z06 17's right now. Hopefully it works out, the previous owner put the 19's on there.

I did SFC's, lower control arms, relocation brackets, adjustable panhard bar, and poly bushings all around. It really made a difference. Looks good underneath too

I think you need to keep working on your launch. 2.5 years ago, 1 year after my Hookers and ORY, I ran 109+ MPH for 7 runs, with the 3.42s. I had a best of 12.89 @ 109.85 that night, with a 2.01 60 ft. The slowest ET that night was a 13.40. So, work on feathering it out of the hole, I try to slip my street tires and clutch the same amount for my best launches. I still have the OE clutch at 89k. Usually I'm runnin' about what you had on the last run, low 13s @ 107 or so. And still getting 25-28 MPG highway!

I can't launch it over 1500 RPMs without it spinning. Even when I launched at 500 RPMs it still spun once I got into the powerband in 1st. My tires are a harder compound, I just need some soft sticky tires and I'll be fine. Heads and cam going in next week so I am just gonna buy a set of 17's and some wide ass DR's

Thanks for the kind words. They do look pretty nice, but a little too flashy for my taste.
