best way to race an automatic

I was just wondering if people had an opinion on how to race an auto.. slam it to the ground right of the light OR a hard steadily climbing pressure..

It depends on a couple things like what kind of mods you have including tires.(DR'S or ST'S) Due you have a stall or stock converter?

you're never gonna wanna just slam it with a GTO....you gotta feather it, you want the tires to spin and then grab. if you go to the track, you just gotta play with it, make a few runs

no stall converter, just intake mods (fipk, mas, polished mani) my friend has an auto 01 trans am and when we race he slams it to the floor and usually jumps out to a half car lead but i feather it and i usually pull him by the quarter mile and i win by a car length, he is bone stock though..

hmmm that surprises me, b/c if i just stomp on my TA i just sit and spin forever (i'm an a4 too) i'd say i pry give it 75% adn then feather it to 100%, i also would think a GTO would take a TA by more than that in the 1/4 tho too

damn!! you actually push it up to 2500rpm's on the stock converter??? that cant be good for your brakes or drivetrain at all...like you said its prob because of those m/t's

buy some tires so you can give her hell out the hole instead of having to baby it.With my stock convertor I made out better by flashing the converter.
the goats leave out alot better than the Fbodys because of the suspension.

thats exactly what i do... punch it at 3/4 throttle off the line, roll out a couple feet, then give it the rest.... im a 2000 z28 a4 with 273 gears and street tires and i stay consistent with 2.0 60 ft with this technique... heres the proof.. im in the right lane #7069

yes i did run a 13.06, and no that is not a stock time... i have a 2000 a4 z28 with borla, lt's, slp intake,85mm maf...and shitty 273's.... even with these mods ive come to learn these are pretty f'n good times due to the fact that im on street tires and have 273's and the car is completely UNTUNED ... evrything is just working right! its just clicking right now!

Generally speaking, "flashing" the converter will provide for a harder launch. On a sticky tire, that's good, and is the way you would want to do it. On a regular street tire, probably not. In that case, loading up the converter might be the way to go, as it will soften the initial hit.

The only way to know for sure with your particular car is to practice different techniques, take good notes, then analyze what did and what did not work.
