I think that's pretty typical of the stick versions. I saw an SRT8 challenger at the track with a 6 speed and he couldn't get out of the 14's at about 105 mph. Takes seat time, or maybe some people were just destined to drive an auto
But most of the bigger hemis I've seen at the track, and generally the autos, will run 13's easily and trap 108-110 mph.

There are usually 15 or so Newer Mopars that all pit together at TMSP.

Just like we(FBody Guys) used to in the 90's and early 2000's.

Some of them are pretty quick, but I guess if you throw enough money at any car you can make it fast.

Well you are comparing new prices to old,,,,apples to oranges.

Our camaro's/firebirds new were $30k+ and that was 15 years ago. Inflation easily puts a new vehicle at $40k now.

Wait 10-15 years and see how much used challengers are selling for,,,then compare.

When it comes down to it, in its class, the Challenger is still in thrid of three places. The new Mustang GT is starting to look the way to go (power, handling, price, etc)...

They use Chinese autmomatics? I was under the belief that they were using T-56's for the manuals.

They use a Getrag MT-82 six speed. Its a German designed tranny thats assembled in China. Alot of 5.0 owners were complaining about notchy shifting and gear grinding especially when cold. Ive heard the Ford dealers have been fixing this problem by adding friction modifier additive to the tranny (like Ford uses in the 8.8 rears) and its solved the issues. Plus the clutches in those cars are hydraulic so that would also add to the problem of rough shifting in colder climates until the fluid warms up.

You have to take into account that this thing is on a 4,000 plus vehicle. Low 13's isn't that bad. I think the problem is that Chrysler developed thier "muscle car" on a more "luxurious" bent. Of the three (Camaro, Challenger, Mustang) most reviewers say that the Challenger is the more comfortable cruiser. This is what you get when one uses a higher end sedan platform as the basis of thier performance vehicle (similar to with the new Camaro and its near 4k weight). For the money (versus other "muscle cars"), it does fall behind in the "bang-for-the-buck" category. It's a comprimise to be decided on by the producer and the consumer. People wanting more of an "all-out" performance car don't buy the Challenger. People wanting a more "livable/comfort" car are buying them. Thats why its third out of three in sales. Either way, although I can see the appeal for the Challenger, it's no my cup of tea either.
