Bright Rally Red- 2002 Camaro Z28
auto shifting problem
Well I took my still bone stock 02 z28 A4 out to Famoso Raceway today and came across an interesting situation. My first pass went smooth I ran a 13.47 @ 104.65 which I was really happy about. Then before my second pass I installed a Granatelli lid and I ran my fasterst time ever of 13.36 @ 105.73 But when it shifted from 2nd to 3rd it hit the rev limiter for a split second Scared the crap out of me then shifted right into 3rd. That pass I left in drive and did not shift it manualy. The only other Automatic car that I have ever race was my old 1990 supra turbo and when that happened I blew a band. Never the less my Z is driving normally now and shifts fine I got on it on the freeway on the way home and shifted at red line in every gear with no problem. I was just wondering if anyone has run into this kind of situation before and is it something I should be worried about! I checked the tranny fluid and it seems full and does not smell burnt!

Every time I added more power, I had to recalibrate my shift points lower... And always had to leave it in overdrive. Do you use a programmer ?

no programer yet I want to get a diablo soon though. I just found it wired that it hit the rev limiter for a second when it was still left in drive

Try leaving it in over-drive... It's just something strange about these trannys... After my burnout, I put it in OD when I stage, and it then shifts when it should. Any other gear, it will hit the rev limiter at wide open throttle.

Yes I've had the same issue with multiple customers cars. I always make passes in OD also. If you do get the diablo I'll tell you first hand it'll pick up et by lowering shift points. Redline is past peak power point and it looses et.
Anyways Good Luck.Don't be afraid of the bottle!!! Be afraid of your tune!!!
