    1st ever 1/4mi times...

Ok guys, it finally happened, i took her to the track at KCIR this past Friday, 07.06.07 and ran 4 times. i only have 3 time slips since they lost my 2nd run time slip. below is the breakdown of my runs and i would like to know what is the deal with my insane trap speeds (cept for my last run in which i missed 4th gear since my pedal was on the floor. if anyone would like to see my time slips as proof, i will take pics and post them up. Numbers in bold are the best numbers of the night for each catagory respectively:

KCIR - Kansas City International Raceway (KCMO)

    Outside Temp: 96°
    Track Temp: 130°+
    Humidity: 60%+

1st Run: Raced and beat a new '07 Mustang GT vert...

    Tire Pressure: 28psi

    R/T: .534
    60': 2.331
    330': 5.883
    1/8: 8.667
    MPH: 88.64
    1000': 11.026
    1/4: 13.011
    MPH: 113.78

    2nd Run: No timeslip

    3rd Run: Raced and beat a '06 SRT-4...

    Tire Pressure: 28psi

    R/T: .270
    60': 2.205
    330': 5.786
    1/8: 8.596
    MPH: 87.89
    1000': 10.977
    1/4: 12.976
    MPH: 112.96

4th Run: Raced and got my ass kicked by a big-block El Camino...

    Tire Pressure: 24psi

    R/T: .372
    60': 2.191
    330': 5.750
    1/8: 8.527
    MPH: 88.71
    1000': 10.889
    1/4: 12.916
    MPH: 106.34
**Missed 4th gear since clutch was stuck to the floor, and would have been even quicker than 12.9 had i had 4th gear...

so can anyone explain to me why i am trapping so high, and suggestions o what i need to improve to get my ET's down other than just telling me i need to lower my 60' time (that's a given). also, with traps that high what would an 'ideal' 1/4mi time be...?

i do know that my car loves 3rd gear and it pulls HARD in that gear...

    whats up brian?

what rear, tires, and gears are you running?
    what launch rpm? race weight?

man its all about practice and then some. just getting into a staging habit and sticking to it is pretty crucial. i wish i didnt lose all my timeslips but i do, or i dont go pick them up. gateway is weird like that.

id say you have low 12s high 11s in it all day but of course this is my opinion and im sure it will be scrutinized by the masses. you have a good amount of torque on tap, just post up alittle more info for me as a refresher....

its just practice, those are good trap speeds though.

sup man. i have the stock rear end and stock 3:42 gearing. im running Nitto DR's 315/35/17 and hooking like mad. i was launching between 2500-3000rpm and bogged every launch. after it recovered, she was off like a bullet pulling hard in every gear, esp. 3rd...

as for race weight, stock '00 SS, with 1/2 tank of gas...

i hear you about the practice, haha. my dad said the samething about practice and getting some gears, esp after seeing my trap speeds.

i want to max out my car as she sits now, before going to a 12 bolt or 9" with gears...

were you slipping the clutch or just letting it go. hell im happy to here your launching with the nitto's on the stock rear because thats the exact tire im running and the exact situation in the rear. maybe feathering might help with the bog, im not sure.

let me ponder all this for awhile and i'll get back to you.

i just got out of my 4 hour class for today and i think im gonna throw up.

shit, by the way. im working on that side molding and the berger panel this week so when i get through i will get you some pics. just waxed it and am focusing more on the looks department out of boredom because i have no money for mods at present. i figure if i leave it sit i can peel off the molding with a bit of ease giving the gd temperature here lately (90s). good write up on that btw

I bet the car goes faster without bogging as well.

400RWHP is good for 115MPH in a full weight car. Sometimes more, depends on set-up.
Obviously practice is key. I am still learning my new set-up...

kci is known as a slow track. hot weather killed you.
were you power shifting? figuring out whats the best launch without bogging and going on a cool nite will help loads. more wheel time is needed.

not bad times for 410rwhp, the trap speed is evidence you have more, a 1.8 60' will nail low 12s... good job man!

theres alot wrong with the times, hes making more power than me and yet is more than .9 tenths slower.
on a good cool nite, with a great launch (1.70 or lower) 60 foot, and kick ass shifting, hell see 11s.

Reaction time doesn't effect ET unless you are bracket racing.

You are facing the sad reality of the weak 10 bolt Brian. You have the power to be an 11 second car as you gain experience from launching/driving. The better you get at launching though, the more likely that 10 bolt is going to blow up. I really doubt your 10 bolt will hold up long enough for you to see an 11 pass with your current setup, even though you have the power to do it. I know that sucks to hear, but its reality.

Moser 9 or Dana 60 brother... once you hit 430+ rwhp it gets tricky at the track for that stock bolt... aslo, it all depends how aggresive ya launch it I guess... but not bad times at all for the setup so far
more power doesn't always mean better times. support that power in suspension, tires, and rear bolt and you're good.

while i want to be able to have a nice respectble 1/4mi track time car, the goal i have w/the SS (from day one) is to have it be a solid street car, w/power pretty much on tap in just about any gear...

yes, i know a stronger rear end w/gears would help to top it off nicely, but also want to keep the overall cost of her down as well. so if my 1/4mi times are off by a few tenths of a second, im ok w/it...

but thats not to say she will never see a track again because thats not true either...
