I used to own a 95 gt mustang and it ran mid 14's stock. A 96-98 cobra usually run high 13's with a good driver. seen some of them run mid 13's even with just a good shifter. I guess it all depends on the driver. They come with 305 hp from the factory. If you are planning on getting one, get 4.10's. That's a HUGE improvement for those cars.

If you are a good driver, I don't see why not. 13's is not hard with those cobras as long as he is hooking good. That mileage should not be a problem. My 95 stang was a convertible and with just gears, shifter and cat back exh. and ran a 9.0 in the eight. So I don't see why not. My stang only had 215 stock and the cobra's got about 90 more HP. But anyway I don't mean to be rude and all, But if you want to know more about mustangs go to a mustang website. For example this ones:

    Mustangforums.com
    Mustangboards.com
    Stangnet.com
    allfordmustangs.com
    modularfords.com

There's so many of them and they could probably inform you better. Good Luck, and Hope you buy that cobra.

I'll second that. Those Cobras were the slowest ones.

you cant say with JUST gears and a catback... if you went to 410's that will make a huge difference plus 15-20 hp for the catback ... you would shed serious time with just that. gears can make a huge difference. that 4.6 from 96-98 may have had 305 at crank prob 270-275 to wheels.. i saw one at the track 2 weeks ago and his was stock he was 14's all night..

    10's N/A

I've been racing against mod-motor Mustangs for a little over 10 years now, and have seen guys on average run anywhere from low 14's (14.1-14.0@99-101) to high 13's completely stock in 96-98 Cobra's. It just depends. True they are 13-second "capable", but I honestly have seen about 85% of them go in the 14-flat range. They'll dyno anywhere from 245 to around 260-rear wheel, and yes they are rated 305hp@5800/300lb-ft torque@4800. Gears make probably more of a drastic change in performance in these cars compared to most others because there peak torque doesn't come until almost five grand. They don't wake up until the tach needle hits close 4000 - but they'll scream to there 6800-rpm redline. I've seen 4.30's take a stock 98 from 14.0's to 13.60's with no other mods on the stock rubber, and still maintain good freeway rpm and not much of a decrease in gas mileage.

And stock termy's run anywhere from low 13's to high 12's in the 109-113mph range depending on coupe or convertible, and the elements of course

I think but I am not sure if I had Drag radials in the mustang when I ran a 9.0 in the eight. I also had an 03 Auto Centennial Mustang and that car ran a 13.98 stock. That car stock dyno at 219hp and ran a 13. So I don't know why you are saying that a 96-98 Cobra won't do it even with 265-275 RWHP. I don't know, maybe those drivers are not running that car like it should.

i agree with N20LT4.... very high 13 capable but not likely... usually see them in 14's stock all night long

and 219rwhp for an 03? wow.. i looked it up and serval stock 03 gt's were in the 245-250 rwhp range...

as for your statement that you dont understand how a car with less hp runs in 13's and the other one doesnt... alot more things than just hp numbers contribute to the et of a car

The quickest of the bone-stock 96-98 Cobras have gone 13.4-13.6. The quickest of the 03/04 Cobras have gone 12.4-12.6.

    Averages/normals are as stated above.

I have owned a mystic 96 cobra until I was hit and totalled. The best I could muster stock was a 13.9 @101.3. If you are going to get gears I would recommend 430s. 410 are nice for street but not for strip....causes you to shift right before crossing the traps. Gears are a must on this car, other mods get expensive real quick.

Yeah, mine is an Auto. 5 speeds are usually in the 230rwhp.
