'will this tire fit?' thread: sidewall height edition.
the popular setup for staggered wheels is obviously 40-r17 front and 35-r18 rear,
would 40-r17 and 40-r18 work? would 40-r18 even fit comfortably? the object is an ever-so-slightly more aggressive stance, comments? would this reduce performance in the turns? any other ideas for reasons I shouldn't do this?

40r-18 would most likely rub and, I am inclined to say, trip the ABS/TC light as the rotational mass of the rear tires will be slower than the front. I could be wrong though. But I DO know the rears will be too tall for the fenderwells. You could try to raise the rear with air shocks to clear the tires. Are said rear tires wider than the front?

I have this gut feeling those 275s in 40 spec will rub.

BFH mod can't solve this problem either eh?
according to this calculator, 275r17s are almost an inch wider than 245r17s? how is that?

Probably based on the brand of tire. Some tires have tread/compound designs that are either wider/narrower than what they read on the sidewall. For instance, my rear Nittos are actually narrower than my old BFG G-Force sports. And they are 275-35-18. I held the Nittos next to the old BFGs when I had them dismounted and the BFGs were half an inch wider.

so if I went for 9.5" I'll be better off then? (at least compared to 10.5) I dont need anything wider than 275 so..
as far as the actual sidewall diameter, I dont feel like playing around with abs, thats my big concern at this point.. guess I'll just go 17s all around, get new springs to get the stance I want
