Just bought 17x9.5's. What is the widest tire i can run. Ive seen 285's. What if I just used the 275's on front and 285's rear. Any problems with that? And no, I wont run 315's!!! I aint catching that ass chewin!

the width is measured from inside the lip, not outside... you sure it's a 17x9.5 and not a 17x9 ?
some advertise 17x9 as 17x9.5, fwiw.
anyways... I'd stick w/ 275/40-17 for ease of replacement and overall diameter.
285 would be limit... and imho, you'd get better performance out of a 275/40-17 since it would be better seated.
remember that a 275/40-17 is to be mounted on a 17x9 to 17x11 rim, with ideal mounted in a 17x9.5

It depends on the tire. I have a 275's up front on 9.5 and they are perfect fit. In the rear I have 285's and they are great on the 9.5's. They have that fat tire look. I have GS-D3's and they are a little skinnier than most others.

Yea, I pretty much determined that 285 is MAX, for both form and function. Hot TA, could you send me some pix comparing your 275's to your 285's. Ive never seen it and think I might go tyhat route. Thank yall.

I have 285/40/17 BFG KDWS on 9.5x17 56mm offset ZR1 on a 2002 Z28. Front and rear. No problems. Not lowered except for hose mod and lower perch Koni SA.

It'll be awhile before I can some pics. I have them stuffed in back of a storage shed right now. They don't work to good in this state during winter. Next week or this weekend I'll dig them out. By the way they are 18's, but the width is what your comparing anyway.

Found out about the rear spring mod, yesterday. But what is the hose mod? Im guessing you are not talking about the TB bypass. ??? Do you have any good pics of the sidewall? And thanks Hot rod, nice ride

    the hose mod is simple.
In the back, over the rear springs, there is a rubber spring isolator to avoid metal to metal contact of spring and body.
removing that rubber isolator and replacing it by a heater hose on the first coil allows you to lower the rear by 3/4"
