    wheel widening question

I was thinking about getting my Boss 338 wheels widened from 10" to 12" and I was wondering if that is safe. Another thing, does widening change your offset? Has anyone had this done? Also where I would get that done, hopefully there is a place in Northern VA.

Weldcraft Wheels can do whatever you want, for the most part. I looked into having out stock WS6 rims narrowed in the front and widened in the rear for track use.

Alright cool. I will probably contact them all my questions. I figure this would fix my problem of wanting wider wheels for wider tires but not wanting to buy other wheels. Unfortunately they don't offer these in 20x12.

I contacted them and for 20 inch wheels to be widened 1-2" it is $275 per wheel. For 3" it is $300 per wheel. I just thought I post this info up. If you guys where widening would you go with 20x12 or 20x13 as the final size after widening?

I would investigate available tire sizes and then see what will actually fit under the car before spending a penny.

Okay, how would I measure what fits? Just by width and height, and backspacing? I have no clue how to measure backspace. I am looking at 335s but I'll see what other options are available.

That was helpful thanks, although some of it was confusing lol. Well tomorrow I'll start measuring to see what I have to work with.

In your case, easiest thing to do would be start with the wheels on the car and measure your clearances. Make sure you do it with the weight on the wheels so the suspension is compressed. Once you take your measurements, then you can remove the wheel and measure it as well -- backspace, width, etc. Add the measurements from both together and you'll have it, after taking some back off to maintain safe clearances.

The wheels are going to be widened towards the back. So you need to have adequate clearance behind the wheel towards the inner fender well. If you don't have enough clearance than you'll need to push the wheel outwards with a spacer or adapter to clear the inside fender well. When you use an adapter or spacer you have to see how far you can go before the wheel is going to stick out of the quarter panel and if you're going to rub the tires on with the quarter if you hit bumps.

Thanks, that is what I figured I would have to do.
